 * I just set /plugins to 755 and logged in.
    I see the plugins now, although most
   of them are advising there is a new version.
 * I decided to click to upgrade the WordPress stats and got the error message I
   was originally getting:
 * ————————————
    Downloading update from [http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/stats.1.3.2.zip](http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/stats.1.3.2.zip)
 * Unpacking the update
 * Could not create directory: /home/myname/public_html/blog/wp-content/upgrade/
   stats/stats/
 * Installation Failed
 * ———————
 * As I was feeling in a carefree mood, I next did a CHMOD on /plugins to 777 and
   tried again. Thinking a 777 would allow everything… but still getting the same
   error message that installation failed.

 * The strange thing is, whenever I have performed a CHMOD on a directory, it changes
   everything underneath that (files and directories) to the same value.
 * So if I set folders at chmod 755, everything is 755.
    So I can’t then set the
   files to 644. I just tried.
 * I set the folder /plugins to 755
    I looked at the files and they were 755 I changed
   one file from 755 to 644, I looked again at /plugins and that was 644
 * I can never set them differently.

 * I have NO idea, but is this a clue (taken from your link to tablesorter)
 * “turning a standard HTML table with THEAD and TBODY tags into a sortable table”
 * I see no THEAD or TBODY in your code

 * This solution worked for me:
    “access the site via the non-www version (ie. example.
   com instead of [http://www.example.com](http://www.example.com))”
 * Mine had been a fresh install, I’d added about 3 categories happily enough, then
   it suddenly stopped working. After reading the above, I removed the www. from
   the start of the url and it instantly added the category.
 * Thanks to that poster!
 * Good luck

 * This fix worked for me too.
 * It appeared that suddenly I could not post. Now I remember I had gone into my
   profile and typed in my website url and saved it, but I didn’t connect this with
   my problem.
 * By going into my profile and unticking the visual box this fixed the problem.
 * Thank you

 * Ah. Thanks.
    I didn’t change that. For two reasons: 1) It said optional 2) I
   had no idea what it meant
 * In fact, now you’ve pointed out, I still cannot connect the two… so, now off
   to track down the .htaccess file, which hides a lot!
 * I can’t even see it via FTP, not that I am sure where to look. I can only see
   it from my userpanel, so off there to fiddle.
 * UPDATE: I don’t seem to have any .htaccess file, or don’t have rights to see
   it at all.
 * I even used the search function in my console to search for it having looked
   through everywhere manually. Nothing.
 * If anybody can give me a clue what to do/where it might be/why I can’t see it.
 * Thanks

 * Also – look at the plug ins. There’s a great adsense module called mightyadsense.
   I use that.

 * I have never had the wysiwyg…. I thought that was how it was meant to be. Interested
   to spot this thread now!
    At the moment I write in pure html and just hope it’s
   all right. Not that I ever write much!
 * I use Maxthon, an IE based browser. I have installed v2.1.3 of WordPress
