 * Following up. I was migrating from a MAMP site to the live host. For some reason
the permissions were not coming over correctly. They were getting changed in
the process. Not sure what that was about?
 * Also, do I need to do steps #1 and #2? Could I simply start with #3 and then #
4? Akeeba Backup works that way.

 * Good question. I have used Xcloner for a number of years but the latest isn’t
working with WP 6.1. I’m getting a temp folder error.

 * I started using CMS with Mambo which became Joomla in 2008. WordPress was rather
rough at the time and I didn’t start using it until about 2010. There was only
Akeeba for Joomla at the time. No Akeeba for WordPress. Not sure when I started
using Xcloner for WordPress but I chose it to replace another plugin that was
disconinued. So that’s how I got with the backup tools I’m using for the two
platforms. They both backup and restore with no problems. That’s all I’m looking
for. If it’s not broke then I’m not going to mess with it. What do you think
   is missing?
 * The only time I’ve had problems with backups failing it was the hosting service
   that was the culprit.
 * Yes it is concerning that it has not been updated in over a year. But it works.
   I don’t use Watchful.

 * I do use Akeeba but just on my Joomla sites. I’ve been using it for about 15
years with no problem. Xcloner has been working good for me for over 10 years.
The UX of Xcloner can be confusing. It is confusing in some cases. However in
15 years of web development both Akeeba and Xcloner do everything I need. I don’t
   think either is missing anything.

 * Are you using it with WordPress? Not that it helps but I’ve been using it for
years with only a minor issue here and there.

 * OK, got it working but still getting the warning on the xcloner_restore.tgz.
I have screenshots if you’re interested?
 * My issue was confusion over the Restore/Skip Next buttons. As you pointed out.

 * I tried to use a xcloner-restore.tgz file from yesterday and that no longer works
   because of the AUTH_KEY error.

 * I’m having a number of issues. I purchased and setup a new domain on my hosting
service just to do this testing. So I’m starting fresh. I start by uploading
and installing WordPress 5.3.2. The latest. Then I upload and install Xcloner
4.1.3. Next I upload the Xcloner built backup file. Now I should be ready to
   run the Restore.
 * Since I’m doing a remote Restore I go to Step 2. I attempt to download the restore
script using the Firefox browser, latest version, and I get a warning that “This
file is not commonly downloaded.” This is new. It hasn’t happend before. There’s
more information and it says that the file may not be safe to open. But it downloads
anyway and since I know the source I try to work with it.
 * I move the .tgz file to my server and attempt to expand it and that fails with
an “unexpected end of file” error. That’s the end of it.

 * I’ve made many attempts. I’ve used this so many times to move a site from MAMP
to a live server that I can’t figure out what I’m missing. This was simpler when
I could just move the backup archive to the live server and then add the restore
scripts. No problems. That can’t be done anymore?

 * Something the “developer” added changed all the file permissions to 666. I reset
all files and it solved the problem.

 * I just did a successful restore with a different backup of a completely different
MAMP site. It worked fine. As I suspected the creator of the problem site used
components that are causing the problem.
 * The developer somehow got 34 themes installed for a very simple site. Most are
Themebeez and he might have downloaded a plugin that brought them all in. I don’t
know. I suspect there are privileges on these that are causing the problem.
 * I’m going to have to go through all these to figure it out.
 * Thanks for you response.

 * Hello! Thanks for the reply.
 * These steps start with WordPress and Xcloner already installed. If that is correct
then Step 1 would be to install the latest WordPress and Xcloner on the new server.
Then I would begin with these steps.
 * I haven’t done a restore in a while so it seems to have changed some. I suppose
this is a good problem to have.

 * I have it working on other sites. It must be something about this site. I set
this site up for my presentation today in Boston. So let’s not worry about it.
I’ll figure out what the issue is later. Thanks!

 * I just checked it is off. The last time I set it to off I deliberately clicked
the Save Settings button before moving to the next pane. Since I’m also trying
to config Cleanup Options I would wait until I got done there to click the Save
Setting button. So maybe that is it. I’m watching it close but at least for now
it seems to be good. Thanks.
