 * Yes you were exactly right, it was the Polylang plug-in
 * Upon further research it seems it has a bug which they are aware of.
 * Thank again so much, I’ve been wasting my whole day trying to figure this out!!!

 * Ok I disabled all plugins and now the links seem to be working. Now to figure
   out which plugin was the culprit…

 * I tried changing the permalinks in my settings but they still don’t work
