In reply to: [Book Review Block] can’t use with editor rightsenthalpie,
I implemented this restriction based on your initial feedback in this forum thread. I cannot easily solve the issue with editors not being able to use the API key (due to it being stored in WordPress settings, which editors don’t have access to by default). And if they don’t have access to the API key, then they cannot use the automated functionality to fetch the results from Google Books API using the ISBN either.
Given the functionality doesn’t work for editors, it makes no sense to surface either the ISBN or the API Key in the block settings, so I’ve removed them. They are now only available for admins. Should I find a solution that works in the future, I will reinstate this functionality.
I must say that I don’t appreciate the multiple posts in this thread and your excessive use of exclamation marks to express your frustration. I maintain this plugin in my free time as a hobby, and would suggest that if you aren’t happy with the free level of support I provide or how the plugin works, then perhaps it’s best for you to look for an alternate solution.
Thx.
Hello,
I would recommend using Sensei Pro’s Groups functionality. It enables configuring access periods so that groups of students have access for the date range you specify.
Thx.
Hi David,
Is this happening on Sensei-specific pages (e.g. course, lesson or quiz), or on all pages / posts on your site?
If on all pages / posts, I suspect this may be related to your theme.
If it’s only happening on Sensei pages, could you please provide a public link where we can see the problem?
Thx.

In reply to: [Book Review Block] two block ?I think you should be able to use the Columns block for that, adding 2 book review blocks in each column.

In reply to: [Book Review Block] what isbn should returnHello,
I can confirm that the Google Books API only returns the title, published date, and page count for that ISBN. If you are not happy with these results, you would need to contact Google about it.
I strongly suggest you edit your previous post to remove your API Key, as you’ve just shared it publicly and now anyone can use it instead of creating their own.

In reply to: [Book Review Block] isbn does’nt workHello,
I’ve already answered your question in this post. Please check the URL I’ve posted there, substituting your API key and ISBN value into the URL. The Book Review block can’t display book info if the Google Books API doesn’t return any results, which is the case for those 2 values that you’ve supplied.

In reply to: [Book Review Block] free fieldPlease note that not all of the fields are pulled from the Google Books API, as some information is custom for each review. For example, Source is meant to be entered as Own, Library etc., which isn’t information that Google Books could possibly know.

In reply to: [Book Review Block] can’t use with editor rightsHello,
The block currently only works well for admin users. The API key doesn’t work for editors because that user role does not have access to WordPress settings, and that is where the API key is stored.
If you really want this to work for editors, you could install the User Role Editor plugin and give your editors the ability to Manage options. But note that by doing that, editors would also gain access to the WordPress Settings menu in the sidebar, which could be a security issue if you don’t trust your editors.
If you decide to go ahead and use the User Role Editor plugin, please post any questions about how to use it in their forum.
Thx.

In reply to: [Book Review Block] Lable translateHello,
I see you’ve already submitted a French translation. Once the translation is approved (please note that I have no control over this process), and you’ve downloaded the approved translations, you should see the block being translated into your site’s language.
I noticed that you’ve translated 56 out of 63 strings (or 89%). Once these translations are approved, WordPress will still not make them available for download in your WordPress dashboard until the plugin is 90% translated. Given this, I’d suggest that you also submit translations for these strings as well.
Thx.

In reply to: [Book Review Block] what isbn should returnHello,
It’s impossible to say without knowing the ISBN you are using. If you’d like to see what the Google API is returning, you can paste this URL into your browser directly, substituting
yourISBN
for the correct ISBN andAPI key
for your Google API key –https://www.googleapis.com/books/v1/volumes?q=isbn:yourISBN&key=yourApiKey

In reply to: [Book Review Block] French translationHello,
Please note that I have nothing to do with translations. Submitted translations are reviewed and approved by the Polyglots team.
Thx.

In reply to: [Book Review Block] field illustratorHello,
Illustrator is a specialized field that is not applicable to the vast majority of books. In order to keep this block generic, I will not be adding fields that are specific to a particular type of book or genre.
Thx.
