    from what I understood, you never go so far as to publish the draft,
   is this right? If that is the case, then the post has not an actual link assigned
   to it and that would explain the discrepancy between the preview link and the‘
   production’ link.

 * Hi there friend,
 * I have found something close to what you are looking for in [stack overflow](https://stackoverflow.com/questions/36731267/use-google-analytics-user-id-function-with-wordpress-site).
   Generating a unique ID and relating this to the user’s WP ID is part of the problem
   you need to address and the code given seems to do that, although I haven’t put
   that to the test and YMMV.
    Also, this code would probably be best in the same
   snippet that you are using to add google analytics and custom script code as 
   you mention. Let me know if that does the trick!
