 * I changed “Events>Pages>Event Pages>Display Events As” from “Posts” to “Pages”
   and now there is no pesky non-functioning comment option.
 * Finally, after hours of trying, it’s fixed! Thanks so much for your help Angelo
   and Calmin for leading me in the right direction!

 * By “new account” do you mean I should create a new wordpress admin?
 * If so, I tried this after your suggestion, and I am still experiencing the same
   difficulties.
 * Here is the result created by the new admin with Event Pages > Enable Comments
   tried with both yes and no options.

 * Would it help to change “Pages>Display Events As” to “Pages” instead of “Posts”?
   Would that have something to do with it?

 * Thanks for getting back so quickly. I followed your instructions exactly, but
   the events do not seem to care whether that option in Events>Settings is checked
   or not.
 * That option does appear to enable/disable the discussion box when editing the
   event, BUT it makes no difference whether “Allow Comments” in said box is checked
   or unchecked.
 * I seem to always be left with a comment count and “Leave a Comment” message that
   doesn’t even function. You can see the new event I created after following your
