 * Yes, it appears I did when trying to change the homepage.
 * I’ve now created a new page using the default template and this has now made 
   the news page work.
 * However can I now not edit the homepage to make it my own?

 * Theme has been updated but still not working as I’m sure you intended.
 * This is a completely new/fresh install with zero plugins and hosted by WPEngine.

 * I’ve been working with WordPress for years but can’t quite manage what should
   be a simple task.

 * We are now having to fix every form. plugin login functionality is broken.
 * Will refrain from upgrading to the paid version until there is a fix
