 * Hello, sorry for the late response!
 * What you describe in the first two paragraphs of your reply above seems to explain
   the behaviour we are seeing. It still feels wrong to receive an email when I 
   haven’t clicked ‘Please confirm your request by clicking on this link:’ on the
   original email. Probably not critical though, since they can then decide to unsubscribe
   if they want to.
