 * I had a similar problem. For me this trick worked:
    1. deactivate Translate Press Plugin
    2. Go to all your menues and check, if there is a note, which tells you, that there
       are missing links
    3. I found those links, deleted them.
    4. Check out all your menues! This is important.
    5. After that I activated TP, which is a fantastic plugin and the language switcher
       showed up. Have not yet tested the tranlation, but am sure it will work like
       always.
