    Hi Loanna,

Thank you for your reply, I appreciate it.

What I was looking for was the file extension that includes webp. If you see my screenshot with the red arrow: https://prnt.sc/1925am5 it still shows as .jpg as the file name. I was thinking it would show as .webp. But I do see now that in the “Type” column it is showing as webp.

So is this the expected behavior? And I am all set, the plugin is working as expected?

Then the next thing to do would be to optimize all the images on my site, then whether the post/page was written years ago, all images will be optimized and webp will be used across the site even if the image is a background image? Can you please confirm these points for me if possible?

    Thank you again,
    China

    Hi Joy,

Great, thanks for the correction on terms, that helps me. Using the incorrect terms just muddies the conversation!

Yes, I uploaded both the photo referenced in my first post above and my new logo the same way, using the Media library and dragging and dropping the file from my desktop onto the upload area of the Media library.

What my last post was about is why was the size of the file with my photo increased, but the size of my new logo not increased? I wanted to understand that difference in behavior on my site.

Also, I did install the Disable Big Image Threshold on my staging site and when I uploaded that image from my original post above, there was no increase in file size. Thanks for the recommendation of that plugin.

    Hi Joy,

Thank you for all this information.

Another question. Within the last week, we had a change to our main site logo. This image was super small both in dimensions and file size. I was concerned that when I uploaded it, that WordPress would automatically upscale it, but it didn’t. I noticed that my logo was a .png while my original upscaled image in my original post was a .jpg. So I thought maybe it had to do with file type. I exported my featured image as a .png and uploaded it again to my site but again WordPress upscaled it. In any case, can you tell me possibly why this new logo wasn’t upscaled and more generally what is the circumstance when images are upscaled and what are scenarios when images are not upscaled?

I will try the Disable Big Image Threshold on my staging site and see if that helps me get around this functionality.

    Thank you,

    Hello,

Thank you for your reply. I have a staging site and on that staging site, I turned on the Twenty Twenty One theme and tested my button and it goes directly to YouTube so you are right, it seems like the theme is doing this.

    Thanks again,

Hello and thank you for your reply.

I have two other questions at this time:

    1. Is there no way for me to force the optimized image path for the featured image on a given page?
    2. How would I disable this functionality? I see from the link you provided, that I must do this: “The scaling is controlled by the big_image_size_threshold filter. Returning false from the filter callback will disable it” but my concern is that I will be updating a core file that would be lost the next time WordPress updates. If I am misunderstanding this, please let me know which file I would update and where that file would be housed.

    Thank you again,

I appreciate the feedback, thank you. I will need to think about how to do this. If/when I get a solution, I will post back here.

My short term solution, which is a bit of a hack, is to change the publication date of the post that should appear first in the news category. But I hope to somehow figure out how to naturally bring that in with a modified query.

    Thank you!

    Hello,

Thank you for the direction, I appreciate it!

I was able to get sticky posts showing in that area of the homepage which was great. The trouble I ran into is for the scenario where something is sticky and news as well, that post would be pulled in twice.

If anyone has insights about how to resolve the issue of duplicate posts, please let me know.

    Thank you,

    Hi Joy,

Are you saying that it is discouraged that themes do this sort of scripting on an archive page?

I do know the site has a completely custom theme, so it is possible that it is being handled there.

Do you have any recommendations for me about where to look into this further to help identify where this is being handled in order to try to debug the issue?

    Thank you,

    Hi Joy,

    Thank you for the reply.

I just checked every post on the site and none are set to sticky.

Here is the list of installed plugins:
    Classic Editor
    Duplicate Page
    Duplicator
    Go Pricing
    Hip Web Design’s Instagram Plugin
    Instagram Feed
    MaxButtons
    Official Facebook Pixel
    Page Links To
    Photo Gallery
    Regenerate Thumbnails
    Social Media and Share Icons
    Yoast SEO
    YouTube

So I am not sure if this is being done in a plugin. Is there a way to see if that is the case that it is being supported/implemented by a plugin?

    Thank you,

    Hello,

Forgot to mention, I checked cloudup again today and still there is the same message that no new user accounts can be created without a invite code.

If there is an alternative way to get you the screenshots, please let me know.

    Thanks again!

I know this has sat for a few months, but has come up again.

Any insights would be so helpful. Thank you!

    Hello,

    Thank you for your reply.

I just tried to sign up for Cloudup but it says that “public signups are currently disabled. If you have a signup code, please enter it in the box below”. But I don’t have a sign up code.

In any case, when I click on Role, the only options are:
    -SEO Editor
    -SEO Manager
    -Administrator

Here is a list of the installed plugins:
    -Classic Editor
    -Duplicator
    -Hip Web Design’s Instagram Plugin
    -MaxButtons
    -Official Facebook Pixel
    -Page Links To
    -Photo Gallery
    -Regenerate Thumbnails
-Social Media and Share Icons (Ultimate Social Media)
    -Yoast SEO

I just did some searching online to see if I could determine if this site is multisite and I couldn’t determine if it is or not. I don’t have FTP access. If I did I know I could look at the wp-config.php file. If there is another way to determine this, let me know.

    Thank you,
    China
