In found the source of the problem, wasn’t the plugin. Server was running behind a reverse proxy and was lacking proper rewrite rules to work with ssl.
Thanks for the help–That indeed was the problem although I don’t undertand why. Yes, I did have access to all areas of my site(not through the admin but through http://mysite.com), index category, single pages etcetera all were working fine. But Something in my functions.php file was causing the crash– after deleting that file the login screen came back and I was able to login. Which makes no sense since all of my functions were valid and were working fine in my theme.
Anyway, thanks a bunch for the pointer, that was in fact the problem.
