 * Perfect, handsome; thanks so much.
 * If this does what you say it does, I think it would make TEC 2.x livable for
our purposes. (I’d much rather see it included in a new TEC 2 release, but maybe
I’ll play with it on a test site.) I’m very happy Shane is taking you up on the
   work.

 * Thanks, handsome! Could you explain a bit more what this is doing? Do I gather
that this exposes the standard WP category selection box while creating or editing
   Tribe Events custom posts types?
 * And that those custom post type events will then be treatable and listable as
normal posts when displaying the contents of a category (e.g., from a menu link)?

 * Thanks for the reply, Jonas. I don’t care about “SEO” (which I still consider
a BS spammy concept for sites that don’t provide value), and we’re a local not-
for-profit that doesn’t run ads anyway.
 * The multiple categories are critical to the way we use the site — we love that
a single post can be referenced in multiple contexts. (For example, newspaper
articles about a previous event share the same category as the event announcement
itself, photo galleries of the event, etc.)
 * We don’t display recent posts on the home page (other than the sidebar references),
so I don’t know that your cool home page hack is relevant for me?
 * And it’s not just the sidebars, it’s the pull down menus from the main navigation
bar (which are of course category-driven).
 * So unless I’m missing something it seems like a nightmare adding new event content
under 2.x versus the 7 straightforward steps I mentioned above…

 * Jonas, are tags a complete replacement for categories? Would using your patch
accomplish some or all of the routine things in my real-world example I asked
   about at [http://wordpress.org/support/topic/plugin-the-events-calendar-how-do-you-use-the-calendar-on-your-site](http://wordpress.org/support/topic/plugin-the-events-calendar-how-do-you-use-the-calendar-on-your-site)?
 * (The only time we really use a posts loop is for category listings, not posts
on the front page per se.)

 * (grumble grumble and one more thing that worked out of the box when events were
   posts grumble grumble 🙂 )
 * dbmayur, to answer your earlier question, 1.6 downloads are available off the
   plugin’s regular WordPress.org page at [http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/the-events-calendar/download/](http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/the-events-calendar/download/)
 * But you might want to stick with 2.x as 1.6 is now unsupported.

   and elsewhere…
 * “Right now (with the 1.x version of the plugin) a URL of that form can seamlessly
list both TEC Event notices/posts and subsequent newspaper article or photo coverage
of those meetings — because they are all checked in the single “OurMeetings”
   category.”

 * Well it seems to me the ONLY advantage to the new version is that it will be
supported while the old version will not be supported. Everything else about
it seems to be a downgrade. The separation of posts from events means that in
many cases people have to re-enter information twice for the same content. The
separation of a different class of categories means complete non-integration
with everything else going on with one’s site. If we have, for example, speaker
John Doe appear, and I want an event listing and press clips about that event,
and follow-up photo galleries for that event, and blog posts related to that
event, to all be gathered under a “John Doe” category or “Our Events” category,
it’s not going to happen with TEC 2.x, whereas it’s trivial to accomplish with
   TEC 1.x.
 * It’s good that the back end is improved, but I think they’ve thrown out something
   great.

 * Jonas, you seem to be working a lot with the new version now, and even providing
patches, and I gather that you like it. May I ask if you like it better than
1.6x, and if so for what reasons?

 * I’ve noticed that WordPress’s br handling is very screwy, completely aside from
plugin issues. They appear and disappear without warning, even when you’re trying
to control things by staying in the HTML editor.
 * Apparently a long standing issue

 * The older “The Event Calendar” 1.65 did/does that, and I love it, but they have
moved to “custom posts types” in TEC 2.x. Which I don’t like.
 * If Event Calendar provided that ability (treating events as posts) I would appreciate
   it…

   sidebar.
 * Oh, unless it’s 1.x Pro; I never worked with that one.

 * Of course if your host uses CPanel or a similar interface, they probably already
offer tools to monitor your resource use. If you are running under 50% of your

 * The Event Calendar 1.65 (the one prior to this major 2.x upgrade) is still my
favorite, but I’m watching “Events Manager” as well.
 * Unfortunately it doesn’t seem as if ANY actively-updated calendar plugin will
treat events as regular posts, as TEC 1.6 did/does.
 * That said, if you’re using the new version, someone from Tribe will probably
   be able to help you…

 * Well that’s good to know — somebody could write a quick script to set all tribe_events
back to posts (since Tribe has declined to offer any backwards conversion utilities).
   Thanks, Greg!
