 * I’m having the same problem. Although I was able to delete in the past, now when
I put click a comment into spam or trash or whatever it goes there, but when
go there it pops back into pending.

 * If a plugin was over-riding the removal of the comments box, wouldn’t it do it
consistently on static pages and pages with posts? I do exactly the same thing
for both. I go to each page, I open the screen options box and uncheck disscussion
and comments, update, and check the page to find that my default static pages
still have the comment box and the pages with posts do not have it unless it
   is clicked open.
I may well be doing something wrong. That’s why I have been
asking for help. But I have followed the WP help carefully, and tried to follow
the advice here as I understand it. I tried and deleted a plugin that did hide
boxes, but gave a traceback. I have only 4 plugins, Askimet, WP Hide Posts, WP
Hide Catagories, and Jetpack, which I believe are all standard WP plugins. I
am uncertain about deleting them for that reason, but I can try it. However,
since what am doing following it help is half-working, I can’t help but think
there is some other solution. I use Weaver, a popular theme. Their help states
that this area is controlled by WP, but it listed the WP help.

 * I had already read the WP help and had already tried several times to disable
comments on existing pages by going to the screen options at the top of the default
static pages and unchecking Discussion and Comment. The Comment Box remained.

So I tried doing someing from WP Posts, as that seemed to be another piece, but
that doesn’t appear to do anything either. When I uncheck the boxes on my existing
Blog Pages With Posts pages, the Comments box does go away. There is a leave
a comment line in the Posting box, and when that is clicked, the Comments box
reopens. So there is a basic difference somewhere in WP programming about Comments
boxes on Static pages versus Posting pages. Since my front page doesn’t have
a Comments box, I did, months ago, find a solution to hiding the Comments box
   that now eludes me.

 * I did try previously to disable comments on the some individual pages using screen
   options, with no luck.
Taking what you said above I went to the admin page and
the second icon “posts”. I selected what was listed in all posts, which was not
even a fraction of my pages (I have been working on creating the images, and
have very little text, and I’m not blogging yet, so no real posts beyond a simple
welcome). I unclicked the comments box as above and applied it. The boxes remain.

what you meant or did I go to the wrong place? Yves

 * Hello lpstenu,
On the above page, I’ve done the steps I’ve mentioned above, and the box still
shows. However, I worked on my homepage months ago, and did something that I
hid the posting box. But I don’t remember what. Too many projects in between.
Since I don’t code, it was not a code solution. Ideally, I want the default static
pages to look like the homepage (minus the top corner Google font code bug –
that’s another new addition). [http://yvesfey.com/](http://yvesfey.com/) The
above are my default static pages. On the pages with posts, the box is actually
going away unless I click “leave a comment”. [http://yvesfey.com/chocolate-cats-and-crime/](http://yvesfey.com/chocolate-cats-and-crime/)
Maybe I can make everything but the front page a page with posts if I can hide
message as well as the box there. But since the home page looks okay, I haven’t
given up hope that someone knows what to do. It’s very crazy-making. Any help
   appreciated.

have the comment box. Very frustrating.

 * Thanks esmi. I think you’ve solved the problem. I had a forgotten plugin that
was an effort to control the comment boxes. Had no luck with it and thought I’d
dumped it. Now that it’s gone, things seem to be working.

 * Thanks. That got me to my login. Still not sure what I did to have it not offer
the admin option. Tried to get rid of sidebar display on home page – but I don’t
know why that would do it. Maybe just telling it to log me in automatically,
even though the whole password thing was semi-automatic. Clueless, unfortunately.

 * Thanks. That did make them vanish. It still looks like something should be there,
but it’s an okay solution. I may need a custom header to really get the look
I want (just image and menu), but it’s probably beyond my skill.

 * Okay. I’m figuring out part of the problem with my question. The post box was
empty, and no posts were visible, but other boxes were visible and I was trying
to find a way to get rid of all of them, so that all a visitor would see on the
page were the Header and Menu. Because a visitor had a place to leave a comment,
I considered that a posting box. I’ve turned off the leave a comment box so it’s
blank too, though more visible than I wanted. I think I can turn off the rest
sidebars and such and get close to the look I want on the front page.

 * I If I try to delete that big block of empty boxes on the actual front page,
it flips me away to the admin page and comes back exactly as before. On the admin
page are the tools, and the box for enterying posts, which is already empty and
has no content. I do not want to remove a post – I want the whole shebang to
be invisible, just the header and menu visible.

 * Truly, I have searched documentation in various ways, but unless you know the
exact phrase to describe what is needed, it can be impossible to find your answer.
I do not know how to remove the content. I have clicked up and down the various
admin boxes looking for something to check or refine. I just tried actually deleting
what was on the page, since that’s my idea of simple. But I didn’t expect it
to work. Is there a box to check to remove content? if so, where is it located?
Do I have to go to the editor and delete it there? Totally scary for a newbie.
I am quite willing to be humiliated with how simple it all is – it’s much better
than hunting futilily for hours or days in search of a solution to a problem.

 * Hello Esmi,
I do have a static front page. And a separate page set as the Post
Page. They both have slightly different post boxes. I’ve read the basic documentation
for Static Pages. Maybe the solution is sitting in front of my nose, but I do
not see any way to hide the box on the static front page, although I know it
is possible somehow. Twenty Ten Weaver has a custom header that sounds like it
will, but I’d rather look for a solution that didn’t require me to fumble with
code. I’ve found plugins to hide other things, but this eludes me. Thanks for
   any clarification.

 * I uploaded the dynamic headers plugin, but its Headers says: It looks like wp-
content/header-images/ is not writable or does not exist. You will need to create
this directory make this directory writable in order for the plugin to work.

Weaver said that it supported this plugin and I wouldn’t need to code, but now
I do and have no clue how to do it correctly. Please help. I do not know CSS,
but I can probably find the right box or file that exists in Weaver and put in
the code if I’m given the exact steps. Hope you can help!

 * Thanks to Chip on the permalink part of my question. I have reset the permalinks
box to the original default. It is:
If this is correct, and the default is what is meant as “page title”, I’m left
with my original problem, that the static page and blog page don’t seem to have
the correct content. The static front page has my expanded and uploaded header(
happy with this), and below it shows a box that says home (I have turned off
the comments box), a search box, and archives and meta thingummies. I will want
to hide these too, but I want to make sure the pages are operating correctly
before I do. The posts page, Blog, does not have the post a comment box, which
surely it should have? It has the hello world message box and the other search
box and archive/meta links. It did not have the post a comment box even before
I turned that off on the front page. Have I done something wrong? Is it all as
it should be, and I’m just supposed to click something to add the comments box
back to posts? All help is appreciated. Gayle
