 * No, the field is greyed out and I cannot even change the text within the field.
   You can see this in the screenshot I linked.
 * Once I publish a product without the individual SKUs it auto-generates them. 
   Then when I try to go back and edit or change the SKU it is grey out and it seems
   to be locked.
