 * Thanks for getting in touch [@jamarcus32](https://wordpress.org/support/users/jamarcus32/),
and sorry to hear about those occasional false positives.
 * Akismet is constantly learning from real-world feedback, so the best way to improve
accuracy is to mark any legitimate comments as “Not Spam” in your dashboard.
This helps train the system over time and reduces the chance of similar comments
   being flagged again.
 * You can find more details here:
 * [https://akismet.com/support/general/akismet-unblocking-a-spam/](https://akismet.com/support/general/akismet-unblocking-a-spam/)
 * In most cases, doing this consistently will noticeably reduce how often it happens.
If you’re seeing a pattern with specific types of comments, feel free to share
a bit more detail with [support@akismet.com](https://wordpress.org/support/users/bluefuton/replies/support@akismet.com?output_format=md)
and we can take a closer look as well.

 * Thanks for the question [@dashaun645](https://wordpress.org/support/users/dashaun645/)!
 * Once Akismet discovers some spam, it will start showing up in the spam folder
and the Akismet stats will update as well.
 * If you want to test it right away, you can submit a comment that includes “akismet-
guaranteed-spam” in the content. Akismet will always flag that as spam, which
makes it useful for confirming everything is wired up correctly.
 * There are a few more tips on confirming Akismet is working here:

 * Sorry to hear you’ve been having trouble with the contact form, [@wp223](https://wordpress.org/support/users/wp223/).
   That sounds frustrating!
 * Were you entering the http:// or https:// at the beginning of your site URL too?
I think that’s currently required on the form, but we may remove that requirement
   to make things simpler.
 * You can also contact us on [support@akismet.com](https://wordpress.org/support/users/bluefuton/replies/support@akismet.com?output_format=md)
with your query if that’s easier.

 * Let’s see if we can figure that out for you [@stimpsonjcat](https://wordpress.org/support/users/stimpsonjcat/).
 * The minimum version of PHP we currently specify is 5.6.20 and the Akismet plugin
should work on all available PHP versions above that. We do have it successfully
running on test sites with PHP 8.3 and 8.4.
 * Can you tell us your WordPress version, and what version of Akismet you currently
   have installed?

 * I just wanted to highlight that Akismet is free for non-profit organizations:
 * [https://akismet.com/support/getting-started/guide-for-nonprofit-organizations/](https://akismet.com/support/getting-started/guide-for-nonprofit-organizations/)
 * Also – if you’re installing it for personal (i.e. non-commercial) use, you can
choose your own price to pay for your Personal subscription. If you wish, that
   price can be $0.

 * Thanks for your feedback [@sbwdblog8](https://wordpress.org/support/users/sbwdblog8/).
 * I just wanted to clear up that Akismet does not self-install, but it has been
included as part of WordPress for a long time now (I believe [since WordPress v2.0 in 2005](https://wordpress.org/news/2005/12/wp2/)).
The Akismet plugin is not activated by default when installed with WordPress
   in this way.

 * Thanks for reporting this and sorry to hear you’ve had difficulty connecting
   to Akismet.
 * The `comment-check` endpoint [currently accepts requests via POST](https://akismet.com/developers/detailed-docs/comment-check/)
only, so accessing the endpoint via GET (for example in your browser) will always
return an error. Admittedly this could return a more descriptive status code
than 500, so we’ll look into improving that.
 * The server status is looking good at the moment and I’m not seeing any issues
connecting from our test sites. Please let us know if you continue to experience
connection difficulties and we’ll investigate further for you.
