It is always possible that something on my system could trigger the download window when clicking on this plugin tab in the admin area. * However, given your expertise in coding your wonderful plugin, I thought you would know something in the code that could be suspect, or at least a candidate for such a call to download a file. At the least, I thought you should know that something is different about this plugin, compared to a plugin baseline (i.e. recognize the code I posted). Since nothing else ever produced such a call in all my WP experience using my current system, thinking there is something unusual in the WPSmart code doesn’t seem to be a misplaced guess. * At any rate, I know you have bigger fish to fry, so I will not waste your time with this strange anomaly (it is intermittent, at any rate). If you don’t think there is a security risk with this plugin, then so be it. You can close this thread. You have kindly considered my request, at least, and I do appreciate your input. This morning, I loggedin to WP admin and the first thing I did was to click on the WPSmart tab to open the settings page, which indeed opened, along with a popup window asking what to do with the download. * It says the file is an “application/octet-stream (21.4KB. Ah, but this time the file name was not the name of my blog, it sported a new filename: dZT8dvYI just like that, no extension. It looks like a password, but its not one that I have ever used (or will). I opened the file in notepad and it appears to be exactly the same file. Every character and symbol in the first few lines of code are identical to the code I pasted in the previous post. Go figure. * Its the typical download window. I understand that an emulation could behave differently than an actual mobile device. To be clear on my end, the “Tap To Load” feature tested in Preview mode functions perfectly. But the APPENDED list of links displayed on the Preview device will open the original, unmodified site every time. The original list do not do this. * I also noticed that, when clicking on any new link displayed below the original list that is loaded after you click the Tap To Load more links, the original site appears in the Preview device in the login mode. In other words, at the top of the unmodified site I see the WP Dashboard strip at the top of the original site format, like what you see when previewing a post. I tried your suggestion to de-activate and re-activate the plugin. Time will tell. As I said the behavior is random. The only pattern I can detect is that it happens early in a session, after logging into admin, and then clicking on the plugin tab first, or maybe right after clicking on the general plugins tab–but not every time. * Maybe I’ll try uninstalling/reinstalling the WPSmart plugin. It makes one wonder how so many precious man-hours could be devoted to mucking around with such superficial concerns, particularly when the existing look and feel of the previous admin was visually pleasing and well defined. Adding features is one thing, but dictating personal taste is another. * Consider the statement posted on the WP site that defends the creation of this ugly theme: “Gone are overbearing gradients and dozens of shades of grey— bring on a bigger, bolder, more colorful design!” Wow! “Overbearing”? Really?–Orwell would love that one. The previous admin theme was subtle, perhaps a bit boring, but “overbearing???!” — give us a break. * Then there is the flat-is-cool virus that seems to have infected the coding community. There seems to be some fantasy about how elegant and beautiful flat, featureless, boxes on a stark background are to the viewer. My two year old son draws like that, but I would not call it elegant. * We need the folks at WP to work on improving security, load times, efficiency and other important improvements under-the-hood–not in your face. The admin area is a work space that needs to be functional well defined and easy on the eyes. The stark, flat, police-cruiser motif of 3.8 really is “OVERBEARING.” And the ability to choose other colors really doesn’t help much because the design is aesthetically juvenile. I’ll supply a URL pending the answer to the following: As mentioned in the first post, my report is based exclusively on the “Preview” feature in the WP-Admin pages. I do not always have a phone to test my site, so I must rely on the Preview mode. * So my question is: How accurate is the “Preview” feature in the admin page? Or, is it possible for the bug/glitch to be in the “preview” mode, but function differently on the actual device requesting the pages? * For me, the accuracy of the Preview feature is critical to any decisions I might make in the settings. For example, I really wanted to use one of your optional themes, but they proved to revert back to the original theme far more often than the default when I tested them in Preview mode. * Anyway, I would appreciate some info on the Preview feature (which is so cool). If you believe that the “Preview” feature is absolutely accurate as a test platform for an actual device, I will post a URL for you to test. Of course, the priority is for the WPSmart plugin to properly serve the devices. Since different types of devices are detectable across the same operating systems, I completely agree with your suggestion that the choice of what format to serve should be the admin’s choice. Why even bother the user with the option, not to mention the unnecessary code served to the device. * I also like the suggestion about pagination of indexed pages. If the answer is yes, there is simply no reason to serve a compressed format for a phone to a large format tablet. * If the answer is no, then at the very least, I agree with ljmac that an option to view the original blog/site format should be included and prominently displayed to the tablet user. * Let me say: Kudos to the WPSmart Mobile team for an excellent plugin. I recently defected from WPTouch due to their intrusive and manipulative tactics. Your offering is elegant and respectful of the user and I am recommending it to all my clients and friends.
