  • “To get around this, please simply Deactivate the plugin, and the Update link will appear. If it doesn’t appear right away, check for updates again, or wait a few minutes”

I have deactivated the plugin but the only choices available to me are “activate” or “delete.” There is no option to update. I have refreshed my plugins page several times to no avail.

“If it doesn’t appear right away, click the “Check for Updates” button under Updates a few times, or wait a few minutes.”

What does this mean. I see no “check for updates” button

Heads up, everyone. It appears that the TOS has been modified. It now says they reserve the right to modify at any time, without notifying users, and that it is our responsibility to review regularly. Right. Plus, this alarming language is now part of the TOS:

“We will not claim ownership in any Content or materials that You post or submit on your Sites. By offering the ShareThis Applications on your Site, You grant Us the sole worldwide right to deliver and/or provide Content through the ShareThis Applications, as well as a worldwide, nonexclusive, assignable, fully paid-up, and royalty-free license to display, reproduce, distribute and perform (if applicable) Your Content through the ShareThis Applications, – See more at: http://www.sharethis.com/pub-tos.html#sthash.pAltswk2.dpuf”

Ajay, unfortunately, this is beyond my ability. However, based on what you say, I suspect the issue is on my end. I’ve been having problems seeing changes in real time due to something my tech says has to do with server-side caching, and my host seems to be unable to resolve the problems. For example, I modified my footer file to add my company address and it took 5 days for the change to be visible. I suspect this may also be the problem with your plugin, which is on me, not you. I appreciate you trying to help but at this point tit looks I may need to work on things on my end.

Did not work. Deactivated from within WordPress, deleted via FTP, downloaded new version and extracted, uploaded new Top 10 folder via FTP, reactivated from WP. Error message:

Warning: require_once(/var/www/vhosts/holeinthedonut.com/httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/top-10/admin.inc.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /var/www/vhosts/holeinthedonut.com/httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/top-10/top-10.php on line 1310 Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required ‘/var/www/vhosts/holeinthedonut.com/httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/top-10/admin.inc.php’ (include_path=’.:’) in /var/www/vhosts/holeinthedonut.com/httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/top-10/top-10.php on line 1310

Sorry, but I just tried 2.0.2 and it still won’t work. Cannot activate after upgrading. Get this error:

Warning: require_once(/var/www/vhosts/holeinthedonut.com/httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/top-10/admin.inc.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /var/www/vhosts/holeinthedonut.com/httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/top-10/top-10.php on line 1310 Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required ‘/var/www/vhosts/holeinthedonut.com/httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/top-10/admin.inc.php’ (include_path=’.:’) in /var/www/vhosts/holeinthedonut.com/httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/top-10/top-10.php on line 1310

Have rolled back to Version 1.9.10.2.

Tobias – just FYI, I experienced exactly the same problem when your update first came out and had to roll back to recover my site. I love your plugin, so have just opted to stay with version 1.2. Site is holeinthedonut.com. Using WordPress v3.8.1.

mc-tak – did as you requested. Deactivated and uninstalled the old version. Downloaded the new version and FTP’d it up. When I tried to activate it showed a fatal error:

Warning: require_once(miniMCAPI.class.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /var/www/vhosts/holeinthedonut.com/httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/mailchimp/mailchimp.php on line 38 Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required ‘miniMCAPI.class.php’ (include_path=’.:’) in /var/www/vhosts/holeinthedonut.com/httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/mailchimp/mailchimp.php on line 38

Rolled back to previous version again.

Hi mc-tak. Not sure I understand what you want us to do. Use a different browser to upgrade and see if it will allow the latest version of the plugin to reactivate? My problem is that the plugin won’t activate after upgrading. If I roll back to the earlier version, it works fine, so it doesn’t seem to be in any way related to browser, computer, or network, though I can say that I’ve tried three times and each time was on a different network in a different country, if that helps.

Hi Nate: I waited until I upgraded to WP 3.6.1 and then tried again. Same problem. Plugin installs OK, but then sends a fatal error upon attempting to reactivate. I’ve rolled back again, but this time I copied the error for you:

Plugin failed to reactivate due to a fatal error.
Warning: require_once(miniMCAPI.class.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /var/www/vhosts/holeinthedonut.com/httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/mailchimp/mailchimp.php on line 38 Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required ‘miniMCAPI.class.php’ (include_path=’.:’) in /var/www/vhosts/holeinthedonut.com/httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/mailchimp/mailchimp.php on line 38

Hope you can help. Thanks so much.

    Hi Nate:
I’ve rolled it back so I can’t tell you exactly, except that it said “fatal error.” I’m hosted with Media Temple on a VPS.

I am having the exact same problem. My site is http://holeinthedonut.com.

I tried to upgrade from 2.2.4 if that helps.

Sorry Paul, but that’s all WAY beyond my ability

    Hi Paul:
I already had the “What’s in Cron” plugin installed, so easy to do a screenshot for you: http://holeinthedonut.com/Screen%20Shot%202013-07-11%20at%2011.40.51%20AM.png

I might add that when this first happened I checked the WP Cron and found some remaining jobs from two other backup plugins that I had used in the past, both of which were so poorly designed that they did not clean up the scheduled cron jobs when I uninstalled them. I removed those jobs from cron about a week ago, so when I tried to upgrade today, that could not have been the conflict.

Also, there are other jobs below those shown, but they are all “publish future post”

Hi Damien: Yes, after the automatic backup function of your plugin stopped working for me, I installed and tested several other backup plugins, one of which was wp_db_backup. I finally got that one working by disabling the database caching and object caching in W3 Total Cache plugin, however I really prefer your plugin because it offers much more functionality so I reinstalled yours, hoping that the W3TC changes would allow yours to work as well.

Unfortunately, the auto-backup still does not work. When I look at the jobs in wp-cron, I see only wp_db_backup_cron, which, as you say, is associated with wp_db_backup. Strangely, that cron job still shows up after deactivating and deleting the files for wp_db_backup. Also, two cron jobs for the Updraft backup plugin are also still showing up in the list of cron jobs, though this plugin has also been deactivated and deleted. All the other tasks in the list are WordPress or Total Cache related – I see nothing that could be a cron job for your plugin. Any thoughts?
