I eventually solved it and thought I’d share the solution. * The Sterling theme (and some others) have a built-in form builder that will interfere with Contact Form 7’s shortcode when used in widgets. Disable the form builder and shortcodes will work fine. * Go to **Appearance** -> **Site Options** and look for the “Forms” panel. I’m using relative URLs, and not quoting them.
