I already have wordfence on the site. And the article is probably helpful but might be above my head. Looks like WAY more work than I want to do myself so I might see if I can hire someone to help me out. I’m just a blogger, not a wordpress guru. Not sure which ones are from the old site or which ones are recent. I don’t know what some of them air. I don’t really know what my hosting site provides, in the way of helping with security. They moved me to a new “control panel” so I’m trying to figure that all out. I did go back to the old theme that they said was causing the problems so it might still have the same problem. It has a log and I see a bunch of things in there that LOOKS like somebody is trying to access things they shouldn’t but I don’t have enough skills to know what is going on. I see things that say “GET” and “POST” which I think are FTP commands but I have no idea how someone could FTP into my site. I DO see in statcounter that people are trying to access “fake pages” on my site but I think I have those corrected. Anyway, its not like anybody really needs to read my “thoughts” that I spew onto a blog anyway. I’ve been watching the log files and it looks like someone is still trying to get into the site. Looks like some hosts have something called IP block where you can easily block IP addresses but this particular host doesn’t have that. Thank you so much for showing me web.archive.org. Although its kind of depressing to see how much work I had put into that layout and how difficult it would be to recreate. It sure seems like if they can have that much of the site on THEIR site that there would be a way for me to get it from them. LOL. At first I couldn’t login to the wordpress site so I couldn’t download it. But he has been doing it all for free, as far as I know. He hasn’t mentioned any charge for doing it. Anyway, I don’t think we really knew how far back the hackers had been getting in. One day someone emailed me and said that I had a post on my site that they should have been quoted in. The post was about something sexual. hahah. I knew I didn’t have any posts like that on my site and no posts like that DID show up on my site . But somehow they were using my domain to redirect people to articles on other sites. They had edited the index.php files and created new subdirectories that also had editted index.php files. It was a real mess. I think that was my problem. I was using an unsupported theme. (Virtue) Some hackers got in there and messed with a bunch of files. Honestly, from what I saw, it seemed like they got onto the server site rather than the wordpress site but I don’t have enough knowledge about the whole thing. All I know is I lost a lot of work and since it was just a personal blog, I’m not sure its worth the effort to make it again. I’m so annoyed that I lost all of my beautiful blogs. I’m still not entirely sure why the hosting site won’t let me use the same themes I used before but its been years since I created a site with wordpress and I’m floundering. At this point, I’m not sure its worth the trouble. I don’t have the passwords necessary to get in and delete the jetpack directory when it causes a problem. I did delete the Jetpack folder and then when I tried to reinstall jetpack, I got more errors. I don’t believe they were the same errors. Had to go in and delete Jetpack again. At this point, we are just operating without jetpack.
