In reply to: [WordPress Hosting Benchmark tool] Misleading resultsThanks for the review and opinion.
Network latency, indeed, can be an issue. And yes, number of queries, that plugin executes is enormous – just because our servers are too fast and obviously because so far I did not come across a good and heavy and slow SQL query – but I am open for that.
I wonder what queries would look more realistic? Once again – very open for suggestions.
And when it comes to scoring – yes, the score number depends on some values, stored on my server, but it does not depend on how many benchmark tests have been performed. I have measured performance of a very fast server and those timings serve as a reference. What ever score you’ve got – does not interfere anyone. And regarding more details – you can see actual time spent for each test on a detailed page. 🙂
Indeed, figuring out database server bottleneck is not an easy task. Especially if you know, that you have a good hardware – it would then come to the fact of logging all SQL queries and analyzing those. Purpose of this plugin was more to identify and compare different servers, different hosting platforms to see how the perform and if the hardware is “ok” or not – because for those, who are usually on the shared hosting subscriptions – that part is a totally dark box.
Take care!:)

In reply to: [WordPress Hosting Benchmark tool] TypoIf you have suggestions for some heavy function, I would love to hear those 🙂 Those math functions – they basically do the same operation – calculating fibonacci number. But they use different approach – one is recursive and other one is iterative. It was quite interesting, how different it is and how much slower the recursive approach is.. you can always reach me on email, i’ve been missing posts here for some time.. 🙂

In reply to: [WordPress Hosting Benchmark tool] Typo🙂 thanks for noting!
Hey, thanks for the question.
And no – plugin measures time for each test and I have list of reference timing for each test and score. It is stored on my server and after completing all the benchmarks – plugin will post scored timings and receive back scores for each test. Those reference timings are not linear and each test does not interfere it.
As our hardware gets better – technically at some point I will need to adjust these timings by benchmarking really fast server. But this will be manual job. 🙂
this was fixed

In reply to: [WordPress Hosting Benchmark tool] PHP 8.3 probably unreliable testA very interesting article about speed of different PHP versions can be found here https://kinsta.com/blog/php-benchmarks/ – according to this article PHP8.3 at specific functions is much faster, especially those tests of WooCommerce. Anyway – that, indeed, does a little bit makes same CPU look, like it is “faster”. But on the other hand – we technically want compare, how fast PHP and WordPress performs and if specific PHP version is faster – it is faster.
Functions, that are used inside “Operations with large text data” are random string generator, mb_eregi_replace, array sorting and array merging. The most used is “mb_eregi_replace” and I believe WordPress itself uses this function a lot – all text filters use it.I will look for more independent CPU intense function and will add it as extra benchmark. And I guess I will also recommend – if possible – upgrade to PHP8.3 to make your WordPress run faster. 🙂

In reply to: [WordPress Hosting Benchmark tool] PHP 8.3 probably unreliable testInteresting! I will check it out!
Oh, your results look really bad.. Error during test – that usually means lack of memory or execution timeout.. You really need better hosting…

In reply to: [WordPress Hosting Benchmark tool] Great pluginthanks)
Try with latest version 1.3.6. I wonder what MySQL version you have.. I have fixed some warning from table definition, besides that I did not discover any issues.
that is quite strange – mentioned function is WordPress function and question is – why could your WP installation miss it.. it is not listed as “deprecated”.. https://developer.wordpress.org/reference/functions/wp_cache_supports/
but sure – i’ll add extra check for that one, although it would affect object cache benchmarks..
Sorry guys… I forgot about this forum and was missing notifications.. I am quite sure, that I run benchmarks on MySQL8 without issues.. but I will doublecheck syntax for that.
Sorry guys, looks like I kinda missed this place for support..
Are you still experiencing this? What is your setup? I have never seen this sort of errors on any of sites, where I use it.. What PHP version are using? Any specific extra plugins you might have? maybe drop me a line to info at wpbenchmark dot io ?

In reply to: [WordPress Hosting Benchmark tool] Issue witht the pluginmy email is listed on the project’s webpage – wpbenchmark.io
Strange, it looks like your hosting provider is limiting number of queries, that you can run and benchmarks fail.
