 * Wow. Great tips, thank you. There only two small things I need to figure out
now. First, is how to keep all of my Ironman posts out of my Recent Posts widget
that appears on the sidebar of my music pages. Because really, no one who is
interested in me as a musician really cares about the Ironman. Also, is there
a way to remove “category” from the URL so it is [http://www.aaronapter.com/364](http://www.aaronapter.com/364)
   instead of [http://www.aaronapter.com/category/364?](http://www.aaronapter.com/category/364?)

 * Before I begin, please don’t flame me for being a moron! Any time I go to create/
modify anything online, I realize how inept I am.
 * I’m experience some difficulty and I’m not sure if it’s due to the fact that
I’m trying to do something that my cookie-cutter theme isn’t meant for, my lack
of skills/knowledge, or a combination of both. I was able to modify the drop
down menus of my “News” section to include “Music News” and “Ironman”. But I’m
clueless as to how to get blog posts with certain categories onto certain pages.
I think this may be due to the pre-designed theme I’m using?
    Perhaps checking
out my site, [http://www.aaronapter.com](http://www.aaronapter.com), would do
a better job of explaining the situation.
 * Any help is greatly appreciated!!

 * Can I create a separate tab for that blog by creating new categories? I’d also
like to be able to provide readers a clear address for my Ironman blog, such
   as [http://www.mysite.com/ironman](http://www.mysite.com/ironman). Is that possible?

 * Forgive me if this is obvious, but I’ve read that page a few times and have no
idea how I can edit my wp-config.php file, especially if I can’t get to any page
within my site and don’t need to access my database.

 * Is there any way to do this through WordPress on my site or do I need to go into
my dreamhost database? I’d like to make this as idiot-proof as possible, as I
am fairly new to this. Thanks!

 * I think WordPress was in the root domain folder. I had just done the one-click
WordPress install on my Dreamhost site and was at the very early stage of building
it. I wanted to make’s he first page of my site something other than the blog
page, which is why I did these steps, mistakingly leaving out 1:
    _Go to the
General panel. In the box for WordPress address (URL): change the address to
the new location of your main WordPress core files. Example: [http://example.com/wordpress](http://example.com/wordpress)
In the box for Site address (URL): change the address to the root directory’s
URL. Example: [http://example.com](http://example.com) Click Save Changes. (Do
not worry about the error message and do not try to see your blog at this point!
You will probably get a message about file not found.)

 * I essentially followed steps 2-5 of the link, while leaving out 1 (unintentional).
That’s when the 404’s started coming.

 * I’m a total dolt. I just needed my nameservers on my godaddy.com domain to be
NS1.DREAMHOST.COM etc. instead of NS1.WORDPRESS.COM. I’m embarrassed but will
   leave this up for others!

 * My site has never been built really. I did use to have a WordPress.com blog,
but I stopped posting to that last year and don’t care about keeping it. I still
have all of my individual profile on there though. I’ve deleted WordPress and
reinstalled several times off of dreamhost, but every time I reinstall I click
on the link and get directed to the WordPress “well this is embarrassing…” page.
Is it something with my actual domain that could be the issue? As I said, I am
going through some growing pains and mistakenly created several WordPress.com
blogs in my foolishness. I deleted them all, but somewhere along the way I briefly
managed to get one of them synced with dreamhost/Wordpress.org. However… I walked
away after setting up my admin and uploading my theme. An hour later it was gone.
I purchased the $12 domain parking (which I have to have), and now my domain
purchased from godaddy redirects to WordPress. I’m baffled at this point.
