    Hi there

I have been happy to use UpdraftPlus for a while on 3 sites at the same hoster. Actual version 1.9.64, WP 4.2. Backup set to be performed automatically to dropbox.

I do receive emails reporting a successfull full backup, and in my DropBox I get 3 files: A gz-file (the database I guess) and 2 zipped files *others.zip and *uploads.zip

Both zipped files however are empty – showing the file structure (years/months) but contains no files? This used to work and only by mere chance I find out, that it did not anymore. I have tryed to manually backup instead – same result.

Any ideas as to why this is?

    best regards

    Hi,

Please can you provide a link to your log file for the problematic backup? (You can download it from the “Existing Backups” tab of your UpdraftPlus settings page).

It’ll be too long to paste into the forum here, but you can download it to your computer, and share it with Dropbox, or paste it in pastebin.com, or any similar service, and post the link here.

    Best wishes,
    David

    Hi,

Try adding this to your wp-config.php near the top, and then start a fresh backup:

    define(‘UPDRAFTPLUS_NO_BINZIP’, true);

    Best wishes,

    Hi David

    THANKS!! 🙂

I just made a test and it seems we are back to working again! What caused the issue if I may ask?

PS: I now get 2 “*uploads.zip”. Noticed that I just crossed 500 MB in the first of the 2. Is that the reason?

    Thanks for your quick support!

This is hard to say. The log records no error codes being returned from the webserver’s zip engine; but does record that the zips weren’t the expected size. Investigating the webserver’s zip engine would involve getting the hosting company to take a closer look, so I suggested changing to a different zip engine as a work-around.

No, this is normal. By default UD splits zips every 500Mb. There’s a setting for it in the ‘expert’ section at the bottom of the ‘Settings’ tab. (Smaller uses less resources and time; larger requires fewer zips on larger sites; 500Mb seems to be a happy medium for most setups).

    You’re welcome!

If you find UpdraftPlus useful, then please give us a positive review, here: https://wordpress.org/support/view/plugin-reviews/updraftplus?rate=5#postform

(If we’re not yet worth 5 stars, then please don’t review, but instead reply here to let us know why not – reviews less than 5 stars bring our average down!).
