• Hi

After running Slideshow for many many months successfully (thank you) with absolutely no issues, suddenly the video still image is not appearing on 2nd, 3rd, 4th… videos in slideshow?? Just a black screen, however the video itself is there and appears when ‘play’ is clicked on…

…be very grateful for a heads up on this one as it’s a problem on quite an in-depth education site I run.

    Thank you
    Kevin

Running Chrome, however same issue when tried it on IE

    Hi, thanks for your help…

The site is a free member site therefore you will have to register to view if you don’t mind…it is a simple 2 step login process.

Please click on this link http://roadmap.jamesalleninstitute.org/wp-login.php?action=register for your password and user name and thereafter go to http://roadmap.jamesalleninstitute.org/road-map-page-8/ to view an example of a Slideshow Video set with the ‘still/thumbnail’ video image not showing past the first video.

    Many thanks
    Kevin

Hi Kevin, I checked the URL above and I can see two slideshows. One near the top and further down. The top slideshow plays all the videos.

This was carried out using Firefox.

Then I went further down the page to the other slideshow which has many slides. I clicked on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th and they played for me.

Did you test different browsers? Do you have a cache plugin installed? Make sure you clear your browser cache and test again.

    Hi

Many thanks for taking the trouble to log in…(please feel free to peruse and take advantage of the Road Map).

Were the video thumbnails/still images for each individual video after video number 1 showing for you? Or did you get a black screen? I too can play the videos and whence I hit play I can see the video itself, I just can’t see initial still image/thumbnail of the videos past number 1 on the play list.

I will try emptying the cache now…FYI – the behaviour was the same for me when I tested in IE prior to contacting you. (As well as Chrome which is the browser I use).

    Thanks again for helping

    Hi

I just cleared my browser cache (and cookies) and I still have the same problem.
I also just reinstalled the latest version of WordPress too (fyi – I update WP/plugins etc every day. (The problem seemed to happen after the latest WP release a few days ago? A coincidence?))

FYI – I have been using your Slideshow plugin on various sites (with the same host also) with never a single issue until this. This site has been running without a hitch as is for many months.

You mentioned a ‘cache plugin’? What is this?

    Thanks
    Kevin

    Hi…

Just done a test on my son’s Nexus7 android tablet and the videos show up fine?!

…Initially! Ahh…now they do not show!

The same problem is occurring on my wife’s laptop too.

(We are all using the same broadband connection??)

Hi Kevin, can you disable all your other plugins except this one and test to see if it works?

In regards to the cache plugin here is a link which provides a list of cache plugins. This will give you an idea of what a cache plugin is.

If the above does not work can you test one of WordPress default themes like Twenty Fifteen.

    Thank you

    Hi

I disabled all other plugins…no difference.
    I tried 2015…no difference.

What could have changed? …this has been fine for many months (and for over 2 years previous with the same site set-up, just under a different URL.)

    Installed ZenCache – no difference.

I presume you are seeing the same problem in Firefox now?
Everything works…just no thumbnail image on 2nd, 3rd…nth videos. However, this is a serious issue for the presentation and functionality of the site thus I must find the problem…

Many thanks for your continued support.

It’s like we’ve lost some ‘code’??

If I were to deactivate and delete the Slideshow plugin and then reinstall it would I loose all of my current slideshows (there are many within the site)?

Thinking this could be another test/possible fix?

Hi, yes you could try to reinstall the plugin again. Just find out where all your images and or movie clips are located before you delete the plugin and make a copy just in case.

As you mentioned above it use to work for a while without a problem.

Do you know whether I’ll loose the slideshows from the database if I delete the plugin?
Huge amount of preparation work to identify each slideshow (setting and content) for each page, and then to rebuild each one if I loose them all??!
Could we missing something very simple?

Do you know if anyone else has reported this glitch? I asked my hosting company to revert the files of my website back 7 days which they did…it did not make any difference.

Hi, I’ve had a breakthrough of sorts:

…I’ve just ticked the ‘Automatically slide to the next slide’ box and the images are now showing!

    See, http://roadmap.jamesalleninstitute.org/road-map-page-3/

However, some of the functions don’t seem to working as I think they should like ticking on or off, Show title and description, doesn’t seem to do anything! uhmmmmm”

Does this help in any way work it out?
