I am moving a site over from .COM to .ORG. My old site has hundreds of [youtube=URL] shortcodes. I can’t find a plugin that uses that same shortcode on .ORG so all of these videos are just displaying the shortcode instead of the video.

It was recommended that I pull the shortcode from functions.php but I don’t have access to the .COM php file.

    Any ideas?

  • After having once moved a site from .com and having my own suspicions about things not being identical to .org, today I would likely set up a sandbox site with the same theme (same functions.php) at the new self-hosted server and get things working, then move the .com site on out and either keep or drop the sandbox sitting beside it.

Thanks. That actually got me thinking that the .COM is on 2011 theme so I pulled down that functions file but [youtube] isnt in there. I wonder if that is part of .COM core…

Just a guess here, but that is certainly possible. I do not recall what differences I had sensed or seen after the move, but the theme was 2011 and the site was so new that I just nuked its new location and started over with a fresh .org installation.

I’m not very familiar with WP.com but I think you have to enable ‘Shortcode Embeds’ in the JetPack plugin 🙂

Jetpack! The one plugin I always deactivate immediately. I installed Slim Jetpack and this worked perfectly! Thanks

I thank you so very much for bringing that possibility to my attention!
