Your stupid plugin deleted all of the 301 redirects inside the WordPress tags in our HTACCESS file. We just did a site migration after 18 years to new URLs for our pages, and had tons of redirects in our htaccess file that needed custom formatting. They were inside the “BEGIN WORDPRESS” section. When we installed and activated your plugin, you wrote to our HTACCESS file, and deleted all of them. We just found out 2 weeks later, which means after 18 years our URL rankings are screwed. Google has been getting 404’s for all our pages on our new site. Now my entire site has been removed from googles index after nearly 2 decades. Thanks a lot!

Not that you care since literally nobody from your team answers questions here anymore.

  • 1. Always keep a backup of the htaccess file.
    2. You should have let a plugin handle the redirects such as the redirection plugin.

    3. I have never had this issue before so it would be hard to help.

    4. Good luck

Also, for future reference, the lines between # BEGIN WordPress and # END WordPress are generated, and there are a number of plugins that will cause these lines to be regenerated, stamping over your changes.

If you are making any changes to the .htaccess, keep them outside of this block.

I agree with Destac – If you have that many redirects, import them into the Redirection plugin.

Unfortunately due to our situation we can’t use a plugin for our redirects. I will inquire about putting the lines outside of BEGIN wordpress, as this is the solution to the problem I have posed here. THank you.
