• What is your opinion on using breadcrumbs for single post pages, archives, etc?
Example: Home > Category > Post Title

I haven’t seen them used much in WP themes (seem to be more popular in Movable Type?). I’m contemplating breadcrumbs for easier navigation, but I’m wondering is there reason why more WP themes don’t utilize them?

  • no I dont use them. all my posts come with a link to the category, author, etc.. and I have 2 other nify navigational helpers at the bottom all multipage views as well

I think breadcrumbs need to be put out for pasture, like captchas.

Yes I do, along with a few others – and they are all excellent.
Just a small comment on breadcrumbs. My WP install directory is different from the blog home. I noticed that this led the breadcrumbs’ “home” link to point to the WP install directory.

The change is obviously fairly minor in calculating $homelink (change get_bloginfo(‘wpurl’) to get_bloginfo(‘home’)).

    Thanks.

Ah thx finalspirit! I’ll have a look at those.

finalspirit: fixed that. I’ve also fixed the fact that the plugin wouldn’t work correctly when you’d defined another page for posts and frontpages.

Wow…quick fix! Thanks for that 2nd update, and glad to be able to help.

    finalspirit yeah thanks!

    Hi Joost,

Thanks for the great breadcrumbs plugin. We are new to WP and realised quite late on that the default URL for a post is dependant on the parent category id. So we have had to re-create almost 400+ categories in a pre-planned order.

Now we have discovered that default breadcrumb displayed for a particular post with multiple parents isnt as expected – please could you tell me what the rules are? i.e. for a particular post with multiple parents, hows does the plugin decide which path to display

    Thanks

    Nakusya
