I am setting up WordPress following the instructions of Matt Woolfe of WordPress Classroom. He was showing how to install an RSS feed using Feedburner. Having followed his instructions to the letter 6 times I keep getting the following error message:
You must provide a feed uri
    Error 400.

Suddenly I noticed on my version of WordPress there are two RSS feeds set up under Meta for entries and comments as well as the RSS symbol. Being a silver surfer I am reasonably computer proficient, but with RSS feed I'm all at sea.

Do I need to worry about not being able to set up Feedburner? If so what does the error message mean?
Will what is on my site do the job just as well?

  2. I have no idea who Matt Woolfe is or what WordPress Classroom might be, so I'm going to start further back than you probably need :)

RSS is built into WordPress. See: http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Feeds

All you SHOULD have to do is make sure they're 'on' in your theme so they can be detected (if you share your URL, we can go look and verify for you :) )

As for FeedBurner, there's a whole post about that too :

But me? I put this in my .htaccess and didn't bother

    # redirect all wordpress feeds to feedburner
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
     RewriteEngine on
     RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/?(feed.*|rss.*|comments.*) [NC]
     RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} !^.*(FeedBurner|FeedValidator) [NC]
     RewriteRule ^feed/?.*$ http://feedproxy.google.com/MySite [L,NC,R=302]
     RewriteRule ^rss/?.*$ http://feedproxy.google.com/MySite [L,NC,R=302]
     RewriteRule ^wp-rss2.php http://feedproxy.google.com/MySite [L,NC,R=302]

Thanks for your help. How do you get the "redirect all feeds to feedburner" in to your htaccess? Sounds like it will sort me out.

  4. I opened my .htaccess file in a text editor and added it. Same as I'd edit any file.
