    Hi,

I have a self-hosted WordPress installation and try to enable Google Site Kit in replacement of the “Google AdSense Plugin”.

All goes well and after selecting my Google Account, grant permission and reaching the “Congratulations” page (with 3 points OK: owner, can access Google Data, set up in Search Console), when clicking on the “Go to my Dashboard” it is redirecting me on page
http://www.retro-passion.fr/wp-admin/?oauth2callback=1&code=sitekit-ULxxx<REDACTED>xxxTZ showing message You don't have permissions to authenticate with Site Kit. (HTTP status code 403).

I’ve tried to “Reset Site Kit”, I have changed the web browser used (Chrome and Firefox), I’ve try configuration in Private mode to avoid potential cookies and session problem, but I obtain the same error every time.

User is Administrator on my WordPress installation.

    WordPress 5.5 / Google Site Kit 1.15.0

What can I do to solve this issue?

    Thanks in advance,
    Loïc

  • @loiclm thanks for reaching out and providing these details!

So it looks like your site is available at both the http and https versions, but your WordPress site settings may be set for the https version (from checking the rest route of your site).

Site Kit relies on your site settings for its configuration, so this may be where the issue lies. Could you force traffic to the https version and proceed with the setup process again? Your hosting provider should be able to assist with the best way to force traffic to https in your environment.

If that doesn’t resolve the issue, please provide your Site Health information here or through this form (when Site Kit is activated).

    Hi Renee,

You pinpoint the issue. I have not noticed that protocol was HTTP 🙂

My WordPress config was already correct.
But I needed to add a Redirection from HTTP to HTTPS in my Apache configuration and it solves the problem.

Thanks for your quick and efficient assistance,
    Regards,
    Loïc

@loiclm great to hear it is resolved!

Enjoy Site Kit and leave a review about your experience if you can. All the best!

    hello Renee,

I’m having a similar issue.I trying to connect google analytics on site kit but I was receiving an authentication error. Then all of a sudden I didn’t have connection to site kit as a whole.I tried to reconnect it but it said I do not have permission to authenticate the site even though I’m the owner.I deleted it and reinstalled it but now it says there’s a cached plugin interfering with it.I have deactivated all my other plugins but it’s still not working.

@bnwuke sorry just seeing this. Could you open a new support topic per forum guidelines? We’d be happy to assist you there. Thanks so much.
