The forum is nice and easy to set up. The problems come when trying to couple the bbPress (and/or BuddyPress) plugin with a membership plugin. As I have tried to do TWICE.

After research it seems that bbpress (and/or BuddyPress) do NOT play well with 'membership' or 's2 member'. I'm not sure whose responsible for the issues, but personally I think they should all get together and resolve the problems. Otherwise, having a membership site with a forum is extremely problematic because the administrators loose their access and instead of doing to the dashboard or being able to login in the first place, you are met with this message: "You do not have sufficient permission to access this page".

After a nice long chat with BlueHost Support, I have found that there are a couple of issues. 1. bbPress/BuddyPress do not play well with any of the membership plugins. 2. The membership plugins regularly mess up the database causing an error. Seems you can nly have one or the other BuddyPress with bbPress OR a membership site, but NOT both.

What a pity! It's just what I need...

  4. What membership plugin are you using?

I tried s2member and Membership. Both crashed my site.

I've decided to eliminate the paid membership offerings for this site I'm currently working on and will likely give it a go with another site that I have in mind.

You might check out Chris Coyier's "List of plugins I use." He's got a members-only area.

  8. Chris Coyier uses my Restrict Content Pro plugin. It integrates with bbPress quite nicely.
