    Hi there

After upgrading to EDD 2.9.13 files can’t be downloaded. Instead, an error message “You do not have permission to download this file” is shown. A rollback to 2.9.12 solves the issue.

    Many thanks, best regards

  • Hi @enriquejros

Thanks for noticing this. I have reported this issue to EDD Git. They will fix it soon.

    Hi @enriquejros

Easy Digital Downloads has been updated to 2.9.14

Please check with the latest version and update us for the same.

    Hi Patrik

I tried and the issue still happens.

    Thanks, regards

    Hi @enriquejros

    Thanks for your response.

It looks like that the “Download Files” are not within WP Content Dir. Can you please confirm that? You can provide me the screenshot of it also.

Latest release of EDD requires file should be within WP Content Dir. Please refer below article
    https://docs.easydigitaldownloads.com/article/991-how-can-i-use-files-that-are-too-large-for-wordpress-to-upload

    Hi again Pratik

The files are in a custom directory under wp-contents. It’s the same directory as they have always been, and never had this issue with previous versions.

    Many thanks, best regards

    Hi @enriquejros

It’s very strange that. Can you please provide me the file path? You can change the last product ZIP name or your custom DIR name. OR you can provide me the screenshot also.

    Sure, here’s a screenshot: https://www.enriquejros.com/desarrolloweb/Captura.jpg

    Many thanks for your help

This error is different than the error produced when your files are not in the correct location.

In 2.9.13 we further improved the security of the file download links, however in doing so any links in emails from before the upgrade will produce this error.

You can get around this by either re-sending the purchase receipt to the customer’s experiencing it (https://docs.easydigitaldownloads.com/article/1183-how-can-i-resend-the-purchase-receipt), or directing customers to login and view their purchase history which will always generate a valid link upon viewing the page.

    Hi Chris

I have just upgraded and checked and that’s ok, resending the receipt makes the file downloadable again 🙂

Many thanks for your help. I’m marking this as solved, hope it helps anyone else.

    Best regards

@cklosows wait, are you saying any e-mail receipt including download links sent to buyers before this update, those download links won’t work anymore? Or is that only if the files are in a different folder other than the default edd folder?

    Hi @sho-down

    For your query,

    1) are you saying any e-mail receipt including download links sent to buyers before this update, those download links won’t work anymore?
    Ans – Yes..

In 2.9.13 we further improved the security of the file download links, however in doing so any links in emails from before the upgrade will produce error.

One more thing download files must be in WP Content Dir. For this you can refer this article https://docs.easydigitaldownloads.com/article/991-how-can-i-use-files-that-are-too-large-for-wordpress-to-upload

    Hi @tufiq

Can you please try to resend the receipt one more time with the latest version?

Also please try to download the file via Purchase History shortcode and see error is there or not?

    Hi @pratik-jain,

    Thank you for your response.

Error still exists in Version 2.9.14

    Solution:
I have fixed the issue with the following method.

    1) Deactivate 2.9.14
    2) Install Version 2.9.12 and activate it.
Now the file is downloading successfully from resending receipt which was not downloading with version 2.9.14.
