Support » Installing WordPress » – You cannot install more than one script in the root directory of a domain

  • Hello,
I was moving my WP site to hostgator last night and I wanted to start it over from scratch, so I deleted all of the files. (There were users I didn’t want, I wanted to start with a new theme etc etc)
Now when I try to install WP to that domain I get this message: – You cannot install more than one script in the root directory of a domain.
But as far as I can see there are no files.
I contacted the Hostgator support and was told it’s a WP issue.
    Any help please.

  • is this a fantastico install? Has the script been run more than once?
a normal manual install does not give that error message, so hostgator would be wrong in saying this is a wp problem.

    Hi, Thanks for the reply.
I’m not sure what you mean “script been run more than once.”
Yes it is a fantastico install.
I’ll give you more information, hopefully it’ll help.
The domain is hosted at godaddy.
Someone else set the bolg up for me around a year ago, I’m not sure if he used fantastico when he initially set it up.
Let’s say there are issues, so I decided to move the hosting and redesign the site myself. So last evening I changed the nameservers at godaddy to redirect to my hostgator account.
I then deleted the files in file manager in my hostgator cp. (Hostgator support told me to do this, but I should have probably come here first – isn’t hindsight great)
Now when I go to install WP to the domain I get the “- You cannot install more than one script in the root directory of a domain.” message.
So I guess the real question is how do I uninstall WP from the root directory of a domain?

Ok. Hostgator just fixed the problem.
