Yoast, Polylang and SEO

Hello,

first of all, thanks for your great plugin!

I use Yoast SEO and polylang plugins in my website, http://www.webfoodculture.com.
I have set ‘english’ as default language, the other is italian.
Problem is that I get contacts almost just from Italy, how’s it possible?

It’s just my SEO mistake or could it be a wrong setting I should FIX (in Yoast and/or Polylang)? Can you suggest some particular checks?

Hi Antonio,

We are not sure why almost all your traffic is coming from Italy. We suggest contacting the Polylang plugin authors and confirm that the plugin is outputting the right hreflang tags. These tags are used by search engines to help figure out the language of the page. This guide explains more: https://yoast.com/hreflang-ultimate-guide.

Also, we can see your sitemap is appearing here https://www.webfoodculture.com/sitemap_index.xml. We suggest going to your Search Console and seeing if you have errors. If you have errors please describe them or take a screenshot. You can use a tool like: https://pasteboard.co/ to share the image.

Lastly, we do recommend switching to MultilingualPress: https://multilingualpress.org/ as it provides a better integration with Yoast.

Hello Pcosta,

I per your suggestion I have checked the sitemap in Search Console and it seems fine.

I Have tried to cantact polylang support, but well, let’s say they don’t answer very fast (if they answer at all).

Lastly, I have tried to use some hreflang tools, but the results are quite odd:

These seems ok:
https://flang.dejanseo.com.au/ –> OK!
https://app.sistrix.com/en/hreflang-validator –> OK!

These are not:
https://technicalseo.com/seo-tools/hreflang/

Error: Unretrievable URL (status code: 301)
Redirects to https://www.webfoodculture.com/

http://hreflang.ninja/check/?url=www.webfoodculture.com

Something went wrong. Are you sure the URL was correct?
Error message: HTTP Response Code was not 200.

Have you any idea why I receive these error messages?

Your site utilizes an auto-detection that redirects the user from the main / to the appropriate /en or /it version of the site. The main / is not available so some tests may require that you enter the language paths like so:

http://hreflang.ninja/check/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.webfoodculture.com%2Fen%2F

It’s probably od of the default polylang settings.
Could you please tell me if this is fine from a SEO point of view?
