The page with the query parameters is the same page that has no query parameters in the permalinks. So, it is expected to see the self-canonical pointing to the same page without the query strings in the URL and that’s how it should be since these aren’t two different pages but the same page with a few filters enabled to group products.

No Md, thanks for your answer, but let me clarify the problem.

    I want https://www.website.it/prodotti/?filter_categoria=tavolini to canonical itself https://www.website.it/prodotti/?filter_categoria=tavolini

    and not https://www.website.it/prodotti/

is that clear? let me know, thanks!

@danielefelicetti Thanks for your reply, and yes, your reply did help clarify. Although what you are trying to achieve isn’t something that is currently a feature of the plugin. However, it may be able to be achieved programmatically using the wpseo_canonical developer filter.

You can find additional information and reference documentation on this here: https://developer.yoast.com/features/seo-tags/canonical-urls/api/

Unfortunately we can’t offer support on custom code. Since we don’t want to take the risk that we break your website by suggesting incorrect or incomplete code, we cannot advise you on how to make such changes. Maybe someone watching these forums can assist you further, but if your topic is inactive for 7 days, we’ll mark it as resolved to keep the overview.

    Thank you for your understanding.
