Can you please confirm you are using the most recent Yoast v8.1 and the most current version of Visual Composer? You can learn more about updating here: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-can-i-update-my-free-plugin/ . If you update to the most current version of Yoast, does this resolve the issue?
If the issue persists after ensuring the both are updated to the most current version, this could also be caused by a plugin or theme conflict. Can you try and gather as much information for us as possible? Please perform the following:
1. Make sure the issue doesn’t persist when Yoast SEO is disabled.
2. Check for conflicts.
3. Check for JavaScript errors with your console.
If you find any JavaScript errors related to Yoast SEO or if there is a conflict with a plugin or a theme, you can create a new GitHub issue for our developers. Please report the issue to a third party developer as well.

A- The current Yoast version is 11.3. You really want us to downgrade to Yoast v8.1?!!?
B- We use Visual Composer with out theme (The7 WPBakery Page Builder 6.0.2) which is Visual Composer 6.0.2 (17.05.2019) – latest compatible with theme

b) No javascript errors when loading the page on front end
Don’t push the issue being specific to our site so easily. We see the same problem on another site.
Did you read the problem? Yoast does not render the “%excerpt%” snippet. The meta description does NOT render if we use the snippet “%excerpt%”. It does NOT format the shortcode from WPBakery.
Could you please show us some example URLs where the issue remains occurring for you so that we can take a look at them?
