# Unwanted Permalink Changes

 * I have a specific naming convention for permalinks on a site. For example, tm-
   whatever because I know that page is a landing page for someone coming from Text
   Magic. What I have noticed is that when I add the SEO keywords, if they are not
   the same as the permalink, Yoast some kind of way changes my permalink to match
   up with the keywords. This often happens on a page which has already been published.
   If the permalink is tm-baking-bread and the keyword is Baking Bread, the permalink
   will change from tm-baking-bread to just baking-bread.
 * It’s very annoying when I have given out a specific link and users come back
   telling me it’s a 404. Then I have to search through WordPress pages to find
   the page I want and change it back – and that in itself takes time.
 * I don’t remember older versions of the plugin doing this. There was a note about
   the permalink having or not having the keywords and that was about it. The plugin
   didn’t just willy nilly go around changing permalinks.
 * So, please, take this “helpful” feature away. I’m sure I’m not the only one having
   this issue.
 * Thanks in advance.

 * Hi,
 * Could you confirm you are using the latest version of WordPress 5.5.1, Yoast
   SEO for WordPress 14.9, and the latest version of all of your other plugins and
   themes on the site?
 * Could you please provide more information on how you are generating permalinks
   using Text magic as we aren’t familiar with this program or plugin?
 * Also, we do know that if you set the ‘focus keyphrase’ field in the Yoast SEO
   meta box, it shouldn’t affect anything in the permalinks at all. It should just
   be used in calculating the SEO and Readability analysis. There should also be
   an assessment if you aren’t using the focus keyphrase in your permalink or slug,
   but it shouldn’t modify it based on your focus keyphrase.
 * Could you check if you are not modifying the slug field in the Yoast SEO meta
   box and not the focus keyphrase?
