I have a yearly archive in the sidebar of my site that looks like this:

<?php wp_get_archives( array(
'type'=>'yearly',
'limit'=>10,
'format'=>'custom',
'after'=>'  '
) ); ?>

It works great except the oldest year, 2011 produces a white screen and 2017 produces a blank page with the following:

Index of /2017
Parent Directory

Any help is appreciated.

• Turn on debugging and visit these pages. That may show you error messages that will be good hints about what’s going strange.
See https://codex.wordpress.org/Debugging_in_WordPress for details on how to enable debugging.
Remember to turn debugging off afterwards: warnings that display too early may break the site, and you don’t want various error messages to give unnecessary hints to possible attackers.

Alternative approach:
Try turning various specific plugins off and/or changing to a default theme (twenty-something). With https://wordpress.org/plugins/health-check/ you can do this without affecting anything for your visitors.

Tor-Bjorn Fjellner,

Thanks for the response, but I’m still stuck. First I turned on debugging but didn’t get any error messages so I turned it back off. Then I installed health-check but even with no plugins activated, and while using Twenty Seventeen theme, the behavior didn’t change. Still getting the one white screen and the other directory listing instead of an archive for 2011 and 2017.

The theme I’m using is custom built on _underscores and Twitter Bootstrap. I have the same theme and same plugins activated on a dev site and that site works fine. Odd.

Do you actually have sub-directories on your site named 2011 and 2017?

Like, look at your site’s files. If you have actual directories there, those will override what WordPress is trying to do.

Thank you Samuel. Simple but brilliant. I did have 2011 and 2017 directories with older versions of the site.

Thanks again.
