Support » Fixing WordPress » xmlprc – can we pull data without a cron job?

  • Hi,
I have a site that gather information from other sites, and inform the members (I use s2member) when a new piece of information is coming.

The current procedure involve cron-job that check the remote sites, and if there’s a new data, it uses xmlprc and upload it as a post. Once the post is uploaded in my site, all users gets an email about the new post.

This is a financial data site, so it is very important that the the data on the remore server will become a post on my site, and that the users will get an email about it within a 30 seconds

I have several data sources (some are text files, some csv) and I cannot access the remote servers, or their FTPs.
The only thing I can do is to ask the file to be in a certain format

Is there any solution beside using the cron-job?
What would be the best solution to “pull” the data from the remote server as soon as it is uploaded there?

    Thanks
    Fox
