Support » Localhost Installs » xml file and images

  • newbie to all this. using .org. As the one with the most tech know how I inherited a local volunteer museum site with the hosting about to expire and could only log in on the originators details. I managed to save an xml file and have all the images in a separate folder. I have imported all the data and have the basics of a working site albeit untidy. I have used FTP to create the media library but each image needs to be placed individually.

Is this a problem my making or will images not connect with the links due to the incorrect info? and therefore would I be as well starting from scratch and building site slowly and adding images as I create each page / post.

WordPress’s Media library is catalog, not a file browser, so if the uploaded images don’t match their original location in /wp-content/uploads/ WordPress will not know where they are.

Make sure that you’ve uploaded them all to their original directories. That will at least ensure that they still appear in the Posts and Pages they were included with.

If the Media library still can’t find them, use https://wordpress.org/plugins/add-from-server/ to re-index them. Don’t worry about the tested version warning there, it still works: https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/add-from-server/reviews/ 😉
