Support » Fixing WordPress » xhtml 1.1 option

  • Sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldn’t find the exact answer via a search.
I’ve just installed wordpress for the first time, locally, to try it out before my website goes live -and everything went sweetly. Well done developers!
However I do have one question…..
On the features page of this site i quote:
“WordPress’ markup is XHTML 1.1 compliant out of the box, however we send a less strict document type by default for additional compatibility.”
So where is the option to generate a xhtml 1.1 page? I’m keen to at least try this even if it isn’t compatibale with all browsers at the moment.
Or am I (as I suspect) going to have to re-write the template myself?
Sorry if I’ve missed something obvious and thus this sounds like a dumb question, but hey i’m new!
    Any help appreciated,

  • Just a guess 🙂
the index.php page/file comes with the following lines at the top:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "">
change there what you want to change

    Doh! That was too obvious.
*Sometimes it’s just too easy!* 🙂

Yes, I assumed it was desired to just “see” if it would pass muster. I see re-reading the post I misunderstood the “keen to at least try”

    Mine validates 1.1:)
