• Hi there,

I am using the [recent posts] shortcode, and appreciate the various options for orientation, categories, etc. The thing is, none of them provide the option to allow an excerpt to show (only the option of an image or not).

I’m assuming this isn’t a feature, yet, so is there a way to do this within certain php files?

On my homepage I have several different [recent posts] categories in separate columns. I would like to only show the excerpt on the main ‘News’ posts (of the news category).

Please let me know if there is a way to do this.

    Thanks

  • Is it Premium WordPress theme? if yes then you should contact them and ask for the support.

Yes it is, but when you get a reply like the below, don’t you think there’s a chance someone else might know?

    “Hey guys,

This is feature isn’t currently supported but we have taken note of this as feature request and might implement it in a future release.

    Thanks.”

I tried editing the shortcode file but that broke the website. Whoops.

    I’ve reverted it back.

Would something like a custom template work? If so, how would I go about doing this?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi LemonyWeasel,

I am also working on the theme X and facing the problem to display x-portfolio by category.

Did you find a solution for that and would you be as kind as to share it?

    Thanks,
    Luxar

    Hi Luxar,

I wasn’t having an issue with displaying a category. I wanted to show an excerpt (which I still haven’t figured out).

Anyway, to show a specific category you just add the parameter, eg.

    [recent_posts count="1" orientation="vertical" category="remember"]

Go here and scroll down about 60% of the way to see examples:

    Hi LemonyWeasel,

thanks for your answer, greatly appreciated.

But it’s strange: I have stated just that and as soon as I ask for any sort of filtering for category or even tag I get no result at all.

If I don’t apply a filter then I get all recent results from all categories which – at least in my case – is not at all helpful.

I ain’t got a clue expect buying someone elses plugin. Which is a shame with the great theme having a partially developped portfolio-functionality. But what can we do?

    Kind regards,
    Luxar
