You may need to manually update WP core by the following steps: 1) Download latest version of WP to your local machine. 2) Unzip it. 3) Upload these new files to your server and replace the existing ones – ****But with the following exceptions**: Do not replace the wp-config.php file or the wp-contents folder on your server. 4) Check to see if everything is working again. * If this doesn’t resolve the issue, we may need to try basic troubleshooting steps of disabling all custom themes and disabling all plugins to confirm a default WordPress installation works. Have you double checked the file permissions for your WordPress installation? Do you have access to read/write/execute on the server? Does WordPress run under it’s own user account? It may be running with different permissions. That may be why you can’t update. But the fact that you don’t even see a way to add new themes suggests something is wrong with your WordPress installation – that is not normal. Normally you go to the Appearance->Themes view and click the “Add New” button next to the theme count number (upper left) and you can search for themes and install them there. That’s not standard out-of-the- box WordPress behavior. I’d check with your hosting for further assistance at this point. Like I said, this is not normal, default WordPress behavior.
