Wrong user display names

    Hi

    We have been getting some report from our website user that when they sign in, the greeting displays (e.g. Howdy, Smith John) a name that is not theirs. When they navigate to another page, their correct name comes up and while browsing the website, the wrong name comes up at different times.
    This do not happen all the times but many users have reported it. The wrong name that comes up for most of them happen to be a particular one which belongs to someone registered on the website.
    Is this name/user wrongly coming up a spammer? What can be causing this please and how can I resolve it.

    I seriously doubt it. 🙂

    What can be causing this please and how can I resolve it.

    It could be any one of a number of things, so you’ll need to do a little detective work first. Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.
