# Wrong State displayed

 * Running WordPress, Weaver Xtreme Theme Child, The Events Calendar, and Events
   Calendar Pro, all latest versions. Currently on localhost but we are putting
   the site on the web within a few days.
 * I noticed 2 glaring “typos” on the Front Page: Not a good way to start a new
   website with such misleading information as the first item! Greenville is especially
   bad as there is a (bigger) Greenville in SC! I double-checked ‘Events’ for each
   item, also ‘Venues’, all addresses are correct. Where are these erroneous “states”
   coming from?
 * This is the front page, below the logo:
    Upcoming Concerts Click on concert name
   for details, click on “+Google Map” for directions: Monteverdi – Columbia, SC
   October 8 @ 4:00 pm Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Columbia, SC 1100 Sumter Street
   Columbia, NC 29201 + Google Map
 * Bach Concerto for Two Violins – Greenville, NC
    October 17 @ 7:00 am East Carolina
   University, Greenville, NC East Fifth Street Greenville, SC 27858 + Google Map
 * Btw, would it be possible to make +Google Map link into a button?
    2 other “problems”
   I would like to take care of before we put the site on the web: “Calendar View”
   works with Events>Setting>Right Here, but same exact url on Calendar page (menu
   item) produces this result:
 * Calendar
    [http://localhost/wordpress/wordpress/wordpress/concerts/](http://localhost/wordpress/wordpress/wordpress/concerts/)
 * I do hope you can help me, as we can’t go live with this glaring error on the
   front page!
 * The page I need help with: _[[log in](https://login.wordpress.org/?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fwordpress.org%2Fsupport%2Ftopic%2Fwrong-state-displayed%2F%3Foutput_format%3Dmd&locale=en_US)

 * Well, I finally figured that one out! On the “Venue” page, “Country” was entered
   as “United States” and state picked from drop down list as “South Carolina”.
   This was then _corrected_ to “select a country” and “NC”. As all our events are
   in the US, is there any way to eliminate the “Country” field to prevent this
   from happening again? Also would like to be able to enter NC instead of North
   Carolina.

 * No one can see your site while it is on “localhost” — so no point posting links.
 * There is a large amount if information about customizing the Event Calendar posted
   at [https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/themers-guide/](https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/themers-guide/)
 * The way to make a link appear as a button is to create a custom style. To get
   started, see [https://www.w3schools.com/css/css3_buttons.asp](https://www.w3schools.com/css/css3_buttons.asp)
 * I’d suggest working with a child theme so that you don’t have to worry about
   styles being overwritten with theme upgrades. It’s a good time to implement that
   now, before your site goes live. Almost everything that the plugin does can be
   overridden with custom templates, so the answer to most of your “is it possible?”
   questions would generally be either to create a custom style or template.
 * As to your question about the country in the drop down list, you can set a default
   country in the events setting menu, under “Default Content”. That won’t eliminate
   the drop down, but it means that the field will be automatically populated with“
   United States” and that probably would go a long way toward preventing the data
   entry error you experienced.

 * I reiterate: I am running WordPress, Weaver Xtreme Theme **Child**, The Events
   Calendar, and Events Calendar Shortcode Pro, all latest versions. Currently on
   localhost but we are putting the site on the web within a few days.
    “Calendar
   View” works with Events>Setting>Right Here, but same exact url on Calendar page(
   menu item) produces this result:
 * “Calendar
    [http://localhost/wordpress/wordpress/wordpress/concerts/&#8221](http://localhost/wordpress/wordpress/wordpress/concerts/&#8221);
   This is not intended as a link. It is the exact text I get on my screen instead
   of the calendar view I expect. I tried deactivating all plugins except the Events
   Calendar and Events Calendar Shortcode, and switching to Theme Twenty Seventeen.
   This made no difference. As the main purpose of this site is to inform visitors
   about upcoming concerts, it is important that we be able to display this information
   before we put the site on the web.

 * Sorry, I misunderstood your second question. I thought you were trying to link
   to the page with the problem.
 * I’m just another user so I can’t help you with your menu problem.
 * But when you are reporting a problem and want to quote text verbatim, it will
   be more cleark if you enclose the quoted text in either b-quote or code tags,
   like this:
 * `“Calendar
    http://localhost/wordpress/wordpress/wordpress/concerts/”
 * If you are using Events Calendar Pro then you can get support from the forums
   here – [https://theeventscalendar.com/support-forums/](https://theeventscalendar.com/support-forums/)

 * I don’t think the problem lies with EC-CS. I switched to Theme Twenty-Seventeen
   and deactivated all plug-ins except The Events Calendar (but I did deactivate
   EC-Shortcode) and the problem was still there. Click on menu item “Calendar”
   results in:
    “Calendar [http://localhost/wordpress/wordpress/wordpress/concerts/”](http://localhost/wordpress/wordpress/wordpress/concerts/”)
   I do notice one strange thing, though: the permalink on page “Calendar” reads:“
   [http://localhost/wordpress/wordpress/wordpress/concerts](http://localhost/wordpress/wordpress/wordpress/concerts)**-
   2**/” I tried editing the permalink to eliminate the “-2” but that didn’t work.

 * Have you tried coding your menu link to match the permalink?

 * Yes, I tried coding the menu link to match the permalink. The result was a white
   box:
    “Calendar Calendar…continue reading Logo & Site title” I clicked on ‘continue
   reading’ and got a black box: “WordPres embed HTML embed then the url Copy and
   paste this URL into your WordPress site to embed”

 * Is wordpress/concerts/ a page with a shortcode, or is it a category link?
 * I’m asking because on my installation, the category links are all in this format:
 * `mysite/events/category/category-name`
 * So if “concerts” is an event category, I would expect the link to be coded something
   like this:
 * `http://localhost/wordpress/events/category/concerts/`
 * (I’m a little confused about why your local installation has a path /wordpress/
   wordpress/wordpress/ so I didn’t code my example that way, but obviously you
   would want to code the full path)
 * But if “concerts” is your Events URL slug, then my comment above wouldn’t apply.

 * Events>Settings>Right Here, results in the calendar view, displayed correctly.

   The url at top of calendar view page is: “[http://localhost/wordpress/concerts/&#8221](http://localhost/wordpress/concerts/&#8221);
   The page (and menu item) are “Calendar”. The only item on this page is: “[http://localhost/wordpress/concerts/&#8221](http://localhost/wordpress/concerts/&#8221);
   The result of clicking menu item “Calendar” is this text: “[http://localhost/wordpress/concerts/&#8221](http://localhost/wordpress/concerts/&#8221);
   The permalink on page, “Calendar” is: “[http://localhost/wordpress/concerts/&#8221](http://localhost/wordpress/concerts/&#8221);
   When I changed the link on page “Calendar” to “[http://localhost/wordpress/concerts](http://localhost/wordpress/concerts)**-
   2**/” I got this result: White box with “Calendar…continue reading” Clicking
   this reloads the white box again Second line in white box is: Site logo and site
   title and a symbol (like this<but with balls at both ends and in the middle)
   lousy description, but I don’t know what it means! Anyway, when I click on it
   I get a black box “WordPress embed/HTML embed” Below that is a white box with:“
   [http://localhost/wordpress/concerts-2/&#8221](http://localhost/wordpress/concerts-2/&#8221);
   Below that is: “Copy and paste this URL into your WordPress site to embed” bty:
   My “wordpress/wordpress/wordpress” is the result of improper installation, but
   as it works OK the “guru” on WPMUDEV said not to change it as it might really
   mess things up! In my examples above I have eliminated the extra 2 WordPresses!
   I didn’t bother with categories, as all our events are concerts.

 * > The page (and menu item) are “Calendar”.
 * Do you mean that your site has an actual page titled “Calendar”? (Listed at Dashboard
   > Pages)?

 * Yes, Dashboard>Pages>Calendar, because I want the word “Calendar” on my menu.
   Is the word “Calendar” a no-no word because it is used by the program? I ran
   into that problem when I wanted a page “2016” and was told I couldn’t use it
   because WordPress uses it for archives! Trouble is, I had it working for a while,
   with the “Calendar” page, then it suddenly quit working. Not sure when, maybe
   the last update of EC? I’ve been making so many changes, trying out plugins,
   etc., I just didn’t notice!

 * OK, I’m having a real difficult time figuring out what you’ve done, and obviousliy
   I can’t see your site.
 * All I can tell you is how I have things set up on my site.
 * I don’t have ANY “pages” for events — I just use the slugs created by the program.
 * So for me it is: site.url/events/
 * But if I wanted my “events” called something else (like “concerts”) then I would
   change the event slug on the Events setting page (under the “general” tab..)
   So then it could be: site.url/concerts/
 * All of my menu links to the event calendar are set up as custom links (not page
   links) — and I simply enter the link to the URL generated by the software (so
   in your case, site.url/concerts/) and put in whatever I want for the navigation
   label. No pages needed.
 * If you have created a page called “Calendar” and merely typed the URL to the
   events calendar on that page, it isn’t going to display your calendar. At least
   that’s not any feature of The Events Calendar that I am aware of, and it certainly
   does not work on a test page on my site.
 * It sounds like maybe you are trying to embed the calendar on that page? You can
   do that for a single event, but for the whole calendar you need to use a short
   code — see [https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/inserting-calendar-content-posts-pages/](https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/inserting-calendar-content-posts-pages/)
 * And I don’t know why you want to do that in any case, if the calendar is the
   only thing on the page.
 * Unless I’m misunderstanding something, I’d suggest that you trash the calendar
   page and just set up your menu items as custom links.

 * AbigailM you’re a genius! I changed it to a “custom link” and inserted the url.
   And, Bingo! There’s my calendar!
    I think EC was the first plugin I installed
   shortly after installing WP, as a total newbie. At that time, I thought the only
   way to put an item on a menu was to create a page with the name I wanted on the
   menu. Now, thanks to you, I know better. Thank you soo much for your help and
   patience!

 * Calendar view works beautifully. I have been changing the colors. However the
   bar at the top of the calendar with the days of the week remains dark gray, with
   black lettering. This is virtually illegible, even on my big desktop. How can
   I change these colors?
