wrong redirection to 404

    the folder is named down and I have a page in the blog named downloads. Does that matter?

    Interesting. I have a page named about, and when I tried the following (note the missing t):

    http://example.com/abou

    WordPress redirected it to:

    http://example.com/about/

    So I’m assuming that it does matter.

    I’m not exactly sure what is going on here, but it seems very much like a .htaccess problem. Likely your password protection invoked that problem, too. You can try changing your permalinks and see if that fixes it, or rename your .htaccess temporarily to confirm if it is a problem in that file.

    I ended up changing the name of the folder. That worked fine.
