    Hi moderators,
I hope you’ll find some time to check my issue. Thank you very much in advance!

I’d not open this topic if this was a single case. However this issue persists and I want to see the reason. During the last 1-2 months we’re getting new reviews for our plugin, however the total number of reviews goes down instead of up, we had 127 reviews and it becomes 125 once we got one new review (instead of 128, it seems some reviews are lost).
Recently it stops even changing. It’s been 1-2 weeks that the number of reviews is 125, even though we’ve got two new reviews during this period and I see those are 127 in real. I don’t think this is a cache issue, because the cache was updating within a few hours but not weeks. Could you please check this for our plugin and see whats wrong with that.

    Thanks again!
    Martin

We are using better tools to find illegitimate reviews and reviews including old ones are actively looked at by moderators. You should expect fluctuations in the review count.

Where did you hear cache flushes in a few hours?

The plugin review count is a thumb in the air metric. Please don’t use it for marketing. Seriously. Any review can be removed for cause and plugin or theme authors are only contacted when it’s for sock puppetry.

Contacted as in “Cut it out.”

    *Looks*

Reviews get removed when they are spammy and a number of the one’s left in your plug fit that category. Removing reviews is fine and it doesn’t need your approval or notification.

Thank you for feedback @jdembowski and @anevins

We don’t use this for marketing purpose, we have lots of other ways for marketing for sure. I don’t even mentioned this. However this is very useful for plugin reputation in wordpress.org . So we use plugin review for the reason you’ve created it in wordpress.org .

I’ve already mentioned the reason why this topic is opened. This is an unique case. The number is not being updated for weeks and I see all 127 reviews in review section but it’s still 125. And I don’t see the reason why they are miscounted. As far as I know you always delete spam reviews. But all are there and nothing is removed. And I don’t see any spam review, if there is some, please let me know.

The review section is too important for plugin developers. Even though it’s not for marketing purposes. I’ve never said this and I don’t think this is for marketing. The review section is created by you, and you did an awesome thing creating this. So let us use this for the purpose you’ve created.

    Thank you!

Thanks for your understanding. Please understand that I and others review the reviews and you are talking about losing a sum total of two reviews out of 120+. That’s almost a rounding error.

    This is an unique case.

It really isn’t. Reviews are looked at all the time and sometimes they get removed for cause.

And I don’t see any spam review, if there is some, please let me know.

No. That will never happen. 😉

A little over a week ago I removed about 1,100 reviews from spammers from 3 to 5 years ago from hundreds of plugins. Each one was spam, each one was removed. Many of those accounts were long blocked and a clean up was long overdue.

Can you imagine the emotional pain, suffering and MAGNIFICENT level of drama that would result if I even bothered to inform those plugin authors? I can.

When a review is removed for cause, unless it’s related to the author of that theme or plugin then there is no conversation, there is no notification about it. There does not need to be. Spammy or abusive reviews get removed. If the reviewer is just a spammer then that account is blocked. If it’s someone who just doesn’t know better then a note may go to that user as a reply.

    Hi,

I’m the current rep for the plugin team and I wanted to back up what the forums team is saying here.

Reviews can and WILL be removed for cause at any time. Historical reviews may be removed if we find out they were made in bad faith. Just as an example, if we find out you were compensating users for reviews from (say) January through April, ALL reviews made in that time period will be removed.

We don’t disclose to plugin developers exactly what got a review removed because that has only led to them trying new tricks to get around the ways we’ve detected. Basically, your fellow devs are spoiling this for you. If the forums team is reasonably certain the plugin developer is the cause of the fake-reviews, they notify us, and the plugins team will send a cease and desist. If the reviews don’t stop, the plugin is removed along with all other plugins owned by the person/company.

A few companies have lost the right to host here by messing that one up.

We don’t want to do this, but we have to because people aren’t always good.

Either you trust us to manage the spam and the fake reviews, or you don’t. But if you want to use our reviews, you have to do so under our guidelines and management. The forums team does an absolutely amazing job at this. I trust them.

    Thank you!
Sure, I’m agree with all rules of review management, and I’ve never said any thing vice versa. I only reported miscount of reviews. So at the moment I count 127 reviews in review section, but the number of reviews is displayed 125. This was the main question. If some of those are spam then they should not be there, if they exist in review section it means they are not spam. This was the logic that forced me to ask this question.

I got an answers that this may be rounding issue (by Jan).

Thanks for your understanding. Please understand that I and others review the reviews and you are talking about losing a sum total of two reviews out of 120+. That’s almost a rounding error.

We’ve already lost many reviews, they were moderated and removed for some reasons. And we have nothing against this. All is OK. I know all reasons of review moderation and I agree with them. But this case is not review losing/moderating case, this is a miscounting case. I just want to know if this miscounting error can be fixed…

So you can be sure that all you’ve said here is already known by our team and acceptable. Thank you again for reminding and replies. I just wanted to know why the count is not updated during last two weeks. I had not any complaint regarding to the “review section” rules and moderation.
