Support » Plugin: WooCommerce Services » Wrong Flat Rate Box Selected

I am trying to use WooCommerce Services with USPS flat rate shipping. The boxes I commonly use are small and medium flat rate. I sell soap in my online shop. The dimensions of a bar of soap are 3.5″ (L) x 2.5″ (W) x 1″ (H). I can fit easily 4 bars of soap in a small flat rate box. However, when I use these dimensions, the API selects a medium flat rate box. The problem seems to be with the height. If I set the height to 0.8″ then I get the small flat rate box. Compare these two products:
    Set to 1″ (H):
    Set to 0.8″ (H):

As a workaround, I changed all soap in my shop to 0.8″ (H) but this creates other problems. The calculator thinks 6 bars of soap fit in a small flat rate box, when in fact they don’t fit. Also, I would prefer to show the correct dimensions so that my customers knows what they are receiving. Why does the API choose the wrong box when the height is set above 0.8″? The inner dimensions of a small flat rate box are 8 5/8″ (L) x 5 3/8″ (W) x 1 5/8″ (H). It easily fits a bar of soap 1″ (H). How do I fix this?

    Hi Amanda!

I was able to reproduce this situation on a test site. Unfortunately it appears to be a weakness in our automatic packing algorithm in that it doesn’t “see” that the 4 soaps can fit in the smaller box.

I’ve opened an issue for us to try to come up with a fix or better workaround for you, but I don’t have an ETA on when we will be able to do so.

I’m closing this thread for now, but if you come across any new issues, please feel free to open another one.
