• Hey,

I installed WordPress brand new on a webserver, which had a successful installation beforehand. When I upload images with the Media Upload, they have the permission 600, and I can’t use them in my posts or pages nor even see them. I can manually set them to 644, and they work fine, but all the newly uploaded images receive the 600 permission.

How can I change the upload permissions from 600 to 644 for my uploads folder? Note, it’s a webserver and I don’t have ssh access. I tried looking through the media files in the core installation, but couldn’t find where wordpress sets the permissions for newly uploaded files.

    Thank you,

  • If you do not have access to your server through SSH, perhaps you have access using a file manager (provided by your host company) or use an FTP program like CyberDuck, DW or FileZilla.

If you do not have any access to your file server then you have not other choice but to contact your hosting company and ask them to change your file/directory permissions.

    Hey,

I have access to the filesystem via FTP, and therefore I could see the differences in file permissions. I changed them manually, but that didn’t change the problem with uploading new files.
The folders in the uploads directory all have 710, and the files receive 600. Somewhere WordPress sets those permissions in my opinion.

    Thank you,

Umm.. Do you have any plugins o anything installed that would changed the file permissions. Possibly a security plugin?

    Hey,

The problem was there after the new installation without any plugins. Currently, I added two plugins, which are only the NexGen Gallery and the LogoSlider. They (should) have no influence on the standard media upload.

    Thank you,

You will need to make sure that your file/folder ownership is setup correctly and that WordPress has the correct ownership of its hosting environment.
