Wrong favicon forced by Shortpixel
-
I am using this plugin since a while, everything was great and working. But since a while, the CDN Shortpixel is forcing it’s own Shortpixel Favicon in my websites, without permission.
So I had to deactivate compress pictures via autoptimize, otherwise I have a shortpixel favicon on my sites. This is really really not acceptable.
Thanks

Optimization of the icon files was added in AO 2.7.4 Nick, it can be disabled with this code snippet;
add_filter( 'autoptimize_filter_imgopt_linkicon', '__return_false');
But the fact you saw the SP favicon is very unexpected, I would love to look into that if you would be OK to re-enable the option?

Hi Frank,
where do I need to add this?
You can check it by yourself, this is the shortpixel url in my frontend: https://cdn.shortpixel.ai/client/q_glossy,ret_img,w_180,h_180/https://westend-bestattungen.de/favicon.ico which shows the SP Favicon.
The original URL of my favicon: https://westend-bestattungen.de/favicon.ico shows the correct favicon.
Strange, when I change the favicon it doesn’t show up the new one in frontend, just in my backend I can see the new one
Patrick
hmm, looks like I forgot to check image format when doing favicons, .ico files should not be sent to shortpixel to begin with, I’ll fix in an AO update.
re. the code snippet; the easiest & safest solution is using the code snippets plugin.
Have you been able to test/ use the code snippet Patrick?
In the meanwhile I added a favicon to my own site and I AO does not put the .ico file on shortpixel in my case Patrick;
I do see you also have png-favicons, but those are successfully optimized, e.g. https://cdn.shortpixel.ai/client/q_glossy,ret_img,w_64,h_64/https://westend-bestattungen.de/favicon-64.png
So as .ico files are normally not put on the Shortpixel CDN and as .png icon files are successfully optimized in your case, I’m afraid we will have to dig deeper, starting with enabling image optimization again?
Hello, I have a very similar problem. I am using the AO pluggin and my favicon has also recently been replaced by the ShortPixel favicon, but only when I’m not logged-in. Weirdly, my correct Favicon re-appears once I log-in. My website is: https://www.pencilsketchportraits.co.uk my Favicon is: https://www.pencilsketchportraits.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/favicon.ico. I’m not very ‘technical’ but I tried installing Code Snippet plugin and pasting in the code you suggested Frank, but no change. Any suggestions?
Many thanks, Simon.- This reply was modified 3 years, 5 months ago by simonjm.
wow .. I’m stumped, both because I cannot deny the favicon is served by shortpixel (it shouldn’t and I don’t understand why it does, yet) and because the code snippet doesn’t work!
can you make a screenshot of the screen with code snippet you added, upload it somewhere and post the link to the screenshot here so I can see if anything might be preventing it from working?
review comments might not be the best way to proceed troubleshooting this bizarre bug, can you contact me via the contact page at https://blog.futtta.be/contact @simonjm/ @nickdesignz ?
Hi there, I’ve messaged you on your blog – I look forward to hearing your progress.
Just wanted to report that I had the same issue, the Shortpixel put its own favicon instead of mine.
I just solved the problem by adding the code snippet you provided above to my child theme’s functions.php.
So, thanks for the AO plugin and thanks for your help 🙂Still quite the mystery I’m afraid, would love to get to the bottom of this, can you share your site’s URL wpoptima ?
@optimizingmatters
Sure, it’s weboptima.eu
Now I disabled the code temporarily and it shows the Shortpixel’s icon again:
https://cdn.shortpixel.ai/client/q_glossy,ret_img,w_32,h_32/https://weboptima.eu/favicon.icoI can keep it that way for a day or two, so you can check this issue.
If you would need access, you can contact me via the website contact form.OK, can you download the beta zip-file from Github here and install that instead of the current 2.7.8 to see if that fixes the issue (as per this code change)?
I did, and yes, it works! Good job!
The WP now offers me an upgrade from 2.6.0-beta-4 to 2.7.9-beta-0.
Should I upgrade, or should I wait for the regular version?- This reply was modified 3 years, 5 months ago by WebOptima.
2.6.0-beta-4 is pretty ancient and does not have the optimization of images in

tags anyhow so if you don’t have 2.7.9-beta-0 as the currently active version (which is what the beta.zip should have been), then indeed upgrade to 2.7.9-beta-0 yes so we can make sure the favicon.ico image is not optimized 🙂
