Writr Theme – Changing Background Color On Homepage

  • Hello!

    I made a Writr Child Theme and I’m trying to change the entire background color to dark grey (#303030) for the content area of the homepage only.

    This is the website I’m working on: http://www.rellevantmusic.com/

    So far I’ve entered the CSS below and it’s only changed the background of part of the area. There are still white boxes at the top and bottom, and I’m having a hard time targeting the names of these containers.

    body#homepage div#primary.content-area,
    body#homepage h1.entry-title {
    background: #303030;
    color: #303030;
    }

    I also want to get rid of the little white triangle next to the entry title, but also only for the homepage.

    Please help! I’d truly appreciate it. I’ve spent too much time trying to figure it out.

  • Hey Erika,
    Okay you have the Child theme which is good:-).

    So I do have a question, What are those white spaces for? Also I am getting the code now to remove the little triangle.

    Thanks, Aaron.

    Hello Erika,

    John7022 here. I was visiting the forum and saw your request for help.

    I went to you site and saw what might be the problem. all those meta tags, title tag, links to the scripts, and the style tags have to go up in between the header tag <header> insert tags here </header>. After that work from there to get your site the way you want it to be.

    Thank You

    Hi Aaron,

    I have no idea what the white spaces are for. I thought by changing the color for the primary content area it would target that entire space to the right of the menu/widget area. But those two spaces have remained white and I cannnot figure out how to change their color as well.

    I’m still new to creating child themes on wordpress. I truly appreciate your help! Thank you!

    Hello John7022,

    I’m not sure I understand what you mean. I’m sorry, I’m still new to wordpress styling. Trying to figure it all out.

    Are you saying I need to made changes in the original Writr theme php files? The header.php?

    Thank you for your help.

    Erika

    Hello Erika

    John7022 here. First you need to back up your site before doing any work on it. Second you will need to download and activate “simple custom css” a WP plugin.

    Inserting these rule decorations should get rid of all the white space.
    there are 2 rules that will give you a chance to change colors if you wish inst of getting rid of it.

    following is the code you will have to insert into the simple custom css editor. These are all in your css style sheet DO NOT EDIT the style sheet use simple custom css editor instead. The changes will stick.

    #page:before {
    background: none repeat scroll 0 0 #fff;
    <!– change the #fff color to what ever you want or
    change to transparent to get rid of the white
    space in the upper section.–>
    }

    body#homepage h1 {
    display: none;
    }

    .genericon-document:before {
    display: none; (Add this rule)
    }

    .content-area {
    background: none repeat scroll 0 0 #fff;
    <!– change the #fff color to what ever you want or
    change to transparent to get rid of the white
    space around the video.–>
    }

    You can copy and paste the rules into the simple custom css editor if you wish. just cute out the comments.

    You will notice that we did not write the whole rule, we just wrote what we were changing and it will stick.

    Thank You and try this, it will work if you follow what I said if it makes since to you.

    Thank You
    John7022

    Hey Jon,

    Just checking make sure to put the code between Backticks, the rules of the forum. If they are backticks I am sorry just wanting to check.

    Thanks, Aaron.

    I am sorry I have not responded, Also do you still need assistance?

    Erika.Granberry – it looks like you had a lot of folks chiming in on this thread.

    I’m trying to change the entire background color to dark grey (#303030) for the content area of the homepage only.

    I’m still seeing white in the background of the main column on your homepage. Did you change your mind about what you wanted to do or do you still need help with it? Just let me know, thanks.
