Current color of entire site background is default white. At one time, the color of the left and right sides of the background (wrappers?) matched my site-title color and footer color. Would like CSS code to do that again. Tried a number of element names etc. but failed.

Oh, the background colour? You should be able to change that without CSS, in the dashboard under Appearance > Background.

The dashboard allows me to change the color of the entire background, but that’s not what I want to do. White is right for most of the site, but there were once vertical blue (same color as footer) borders to the background to the left and right of my content sidebars. Lost them during default and don’t know how to restore them.

Would it be possible for you to upload a sketch or mockup of what you mean? I’m not clear what effect you’re after.

Just look at the site. The entire background is white. I just want to change the color of the background areas to the left and right of the sidebar widgets. Two vertical blue strips comprising the outside borders of the site ( same blue as title text footer ).

Based on your description, it sounds to me like you want something like this:

    Test Site tagline

I achieved that effect by selecting a shade of blue under Appearance > Background, which is I think why I’m confused, since you said earlier that’s not what you want.

Sometimes, as they say, a picture is really worth a thousand words, so if there is any way you can sketch out what you want, that would be helpful for me to be able to help you further. Thanks. 🙂

    Yes, Kathyrn.

Your example at https://cloudup.com/c67eAFWmhg7 is in fact an apt illustration of exactly what I want, that is to say, blue background along the SIDES ONLY (as opposed to blue background for the entire site).

The correct shade of blue in my case being #1b4e89.

    Thank you.

Bingo! Glad I was able to interpret what you wanted, then.

As I mentioned, I made the change on my test site within the dashboard, under Appearance > Background, and selecting a colour from the colour picker.

I didn’t add any CSS, just used the built-in dashboard tool. If you paste in the hex code you should get the precise shade of blue you want. Here’s what it looks like:

    Excellent!

Before I transferred to WordPress.org, I had a premium upgrade that enabled me to customize parts of my Pilcrow them at WordPress.com by going to Appearance then “Customize” (rather than CSS or Background), and that Customize link to me to a page with a customizing tool that slid out from the right side of the page and included a “background” color customizing feature.

However, when I tried to use that feature, it kept turning the background OF THE ENTIRE SITE blue, and not just the sides.

As a result, I’ve been assuming all this time that I need CSS and never tried what you did because I mistakenly assumed it would turn the whole darned site Blue !

    Anyway, you’re my BFF !

Yay! Glad this one is sorted. 🙂
